2018 Lincoln MKT Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.9

The 2018 Lincoln MKT uses high-quality cabin materials, but the design and styling are both uninspiring and outdated. The seats are comfortable, though the third row is too small for most adults. There's plenty of cargo space and many tech features, and the SYNC 3 infotainment system is easy to use.

  • "The MKT's interior design does little to inspire or impress. The materials quality is fine, but the all-black dash and dated, commonplace look of the center control layout are far from luxurious." -- Edmunds
  • "We keep mentioning the difference between the interior and exterior styling, but it's true: The interior is as comfortable and pleasant as the exterior is awkward. Clever touches include an available refrigerator you can put between the 2nd-row seats, and 3rd-row seats that can flip and face backward for tailgating." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • "The MKT's interior surprised us with its materials quality, including gorgeous hazelnut-colored leather, brown wood, and a deep gray center stack." -- Automobile Magazine (2013)

Seating

The MKT is a 3-row SUV that seats seven people. Leather upholstery and heated, power-adjustable front seats come standard. Second-row heated and ventilated captain's chairs are available instead of the standard bench seat, but they decrease seating capacity to six. Ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel are available as well.

The front seats have plenty of space and support. The second row is also roomy, and the available captain's chairs provide an improved level of comfort. The third row is smaller than the first two, but it still has enough space for children and smaller adults. Headroom is tighter in the back due to the sloping roofline.

The MKT features two full sets of LATCH child-seat connectors in the second row. The middle second-row seat (in the bench configuration) and the third-row seat on the passenger side also feature tether anchors, though there are no lower anchors.

  • The MKT earns high marks for its comfortable ride quality and supportive front seats. Opt for the heated and cooled second-row captain's chairs, and the rear-seat occupants will have it just as good. The third-row seats are another matter entirely, however, and lack sufficient head- and legroom." -- Edmunds
  • "The 2017 Lincoln MKT offers a spacious and comfortable interior that's right in line with other large 3-row luxury SUVs. Front- and middle-row passengers get plenty of room, and there's enough room in the third row for smaller adults. Two comfortable captain's chairs replace the 2nd-row bench in 6-passenger models …" -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "… the cabin is near whisper quiet." -- Autotrader (2014)

Interior Features

Standard features include push-button and remote start, tri-zone automatic climate control, a fixed-glass panoramic roof, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and MyKey, which allows you to set speed and audio volume limits for others who drive your vehicle. The standard SYNC 3 infotainment system comes with a 10-speaker audio system, a touch screen, satellite radio, two USB ports, voice recognition, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Available features include a 14-speaker THX II certified audio system, HD Radio, navigation, a power panoramic sunroof, a proximity key, a refrigerated second-row console, a rear-seat entertainment system, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, assisted pre-collision braking, active park assist, and lane keep assist.

The SYNC 3 system's large touch screen is easy to see and use from the driver's seat. The system is responsive, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto let you easily connect your smartphone. The screen also responds to smartphone-style gestures, like pinching and zooming.

  • "We like the Sync 3 infotainment system that features a large touchscreen and an easy-to-use interface. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allow you to incorporate many of the apps on your smartphone right into the in-dash display screen." -- Edmunds
  • "Lincoln's MKT for 2017 may be stylistically awkward on the outside, but its interior is to die for. Handsome seats and door panels complement an easy-to-operate dash and control layout." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "… the MKT does provide a long list of standard luxury features in addition to a comfortable and spacious interior." -- Left Lane News (2017)

Cargo

The MKT features just under 18 cubic feet of cargo space (17.9, to be exact) with all seats in use. With the third row folded, that number jumps to 39.6 cubic feet. You'll have 75.9 cubic feet if you fold the second- and third-row seats. A power liftgate comes standard, and a power-folding third-row seat is available.

Though the MKT's maximum capacity exceeds that of many other luxury midsize SUVs, you may have difficulty loading some items because of the vehicle's sloping roofline (consider this the opposite of the boxy Ford Flex). On the bright side, the cargo floor is flat, so it's easy to arrange your stuff.

  • "The MKT has just 17.9 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the third-row seats. Fold the second- and third-row seats down, and you end up with a more useful 75.9 cubic feet of storage. But either way, the MKT's sloped rear hatch makes it tough to load bulkier items." -- Edmunds
  • "Folding the 2nd- and 3rd-row seatbacks quickly expands the already generous cargo space." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "With all seats folded there is a long, flat load floor with generous cargo room." -- Consumer Guide (2012)
