2016 Lincoln MKT Overview

Is the 2016 Lincoln MKT a Good Used SUV?

The 2016 Lincoln MKT is a good luxury midsize SUV that delivers a cushy, comfortable ride. It also has a long list of standard and available features, and its towing capacity is respectable when properly equipped. Although there’s a lot to like, test-drive the competition before you buy. A number of SUVs in this class have better driving dynamics, ritzier cabins, and better fuel economy estimates.

You won’t find a new luxury midsize SUV for the average price of a used 2016 MKT. However, some affordable midsize SUVs offer similar prices and seven-passenger seating. For example, the 2018 Kia Sorento – the winner of our Best 3-Row SUV for the Money award – has a base price of $25,900. That’s $700 lower than the 2016 MKT’s average listing price, and the Sorento gets you an upscale cabin (for a nonluxury model), ample space, a user-friendly infotainment system, a smooth ride, and better gas mileage than the MKT.

2016 Lincoln MKT Recalls

Which Model Year of the Lincoln MKT Is Best?

The 2016 model is part of a generation that launched for 2010. The 2016 is the model to buy. It is the first MKT to feature the user-friendly SYNC 3 infotainment system, which is a significant step up from the MyLincoln Touch system. If you can do without the new system, however, consider saving even more money with models from 2013 to 2015. The 2017 model offers no advantages over the 2016.

Which Used Lincoln MKT Model Is Right for Me?

The 2016 MKT comes in just one well-equipped trim, but it offers two engines. Models designated EcoBoost are equipped with the available twin-turbocharged V6 and all-wheel drive. These models offer more power and better traction than the base edition.

There are also plenty of add-ons. The Luxury Package gives you a 19-speaker stereo system. The Technology Package adds a 360-degree parking camera, forward collision warning with brake support, and parallel park assist. The Select Plus Package enhances the MKT with voice-activated navigation and a blind side warning system.

There is one thing to keep in mind with the MKT – it’s very popular as a for-hire vehicle used at places like airports and hotels. These livery models only have two rows and often have higher mileage than personal-use models.

What Does Lincoln's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Lincoln offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles six years old or less and with fewer than 80,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Lincoln extends its original new-car warranty to six years from the original sale date or 100,000 miles. Lincoln puts its CPO vehicles through a 200-point inspection. Additional benefits like vehicle history reports, towing, and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Lincoln warranty page carefully.

Lincoln has one of the least robust CPO programs among luxury carmakers, according to our analysis. Better programs are available through competitors like Cadillac, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz.

Some models come with blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning with brake support, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and parallel park assist.

2016 Lincoln MKT Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2016 Lincoln MKT or 2016 Acura MDX?

If you want an SUV with sportier handling than the Lincoln MKT, consider the Acura MDX. It has excellent handling for a 3-row SUV and minimal body roll in corners. Along with sharper handling, the MDX offers a peppier base engine, more cargo space, and better fuel economy estimates than the MKT. We named the MDX our 2016 Best Luxury 3-Row SUV for the Money.

Which Is Better: 2016 Lincoln MKT or 2016 Ford Flex?

The Ford Flex is an affordable midsize SUV with a similar average price to the 2016 MKT. Because they’re corporate cousins, both SUVs have the intuitive SYNC 3 infotainment system and powerful available twin-turbocharged engines. However, the Flex has two significant advantages over the MKT: its nimble handling and adult-friendly third row. We see no reason to pay the same for less – go for the Flex.

2016 MKT Performance

How Does the 2016 Lincoln MKT Drive?

The front-wheel-drive MKT has a standard V6 engine that delivers plenty of power for everyday driving, whether you’re on the highway or local roads. However, most drivers will prefer the EcoBoost models for their livelier twin-turbocharged V6 engine and all-wheel drive. Both engines are mated to a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission.

The MKT prioritizes comfort over agility. It has a cushioned ride, but there's quite a bit of body lean through turns. Most competitors are more agile.

Does the 2016 Lincoln MKT Get Good Gas Mileage?

With either engine, the MKT gets below-average fuel economy. The base engine earns an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

2016 Lincoln MKT Towing Capacity

The MKT can tow up to 4,500 pounds with the available Class III trailer tow package. That’s 1,000 pounds more than the Acura MDX can handle, but it matches the capacity of the Buick Enclave. With the MKT, you’ll have enough towing power to pull a family-sized pop-up trailer.

How Many People Does the 2016 MKT Seat?

There are two available seating configurations. The MKT seats seven with the standard bench seat in the second row; the available second-row captain's chairs reduces that number to six. The first two rows feature heated leather seats that are roomy and comfortable. The third row is best suited for children, though it has more legroom than most similarly sized SUVs.

How Many Car Seats Fit in the 2016 Lincoln MKT?

The MKT comes with three complete sets of LATCH connectors for installing child safety seats. There are two sets located on the second-row outboard seats, and one set on a passenger-side third-row seat. The second-row middle seat has an upper tether anchor.

2016 Lincoln MKT Features

Lincoln includes a lengthy list of standard features in the MKT. All models come with tri-zone automatic climate control, remote start, satellite radio, and a keyless entry keypad. The user-friendly SYNC 3 infotainment system is also standard. It features two USB ports, two 4.2-inch color LCD screens, voice recognition, smartphone integration, and an 8-inch touch screen that responds to smartphone-like gestures. A power panoramic sunroof, a 14-speaker THX II certified sound system, HD Radio, a navigation system, and a dual-screen rear-seat DVD entertainment system are available.

2016 Lincoln MKT Dimensions

Lincoln MKT Cargo Space

The MKT has 17.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. There is 39.6 cubic feet of space with the third row folded, which expands to 75.9 cubic feet with both back rows folded. That’s an average amount of storage space for a 3-row luxury crossover. However, the MKT’s sloping roofline makes it hard to maximize the available space. The Infiniti QX60 has a similarly sized cargo area, but the Acura MDX offers quite a bit more room for your stuff.

A power liftgate is standard, and the highest MKT trim features a power-folding third-row seat.

2016 MKT Length

The 2016 Lincoln MKT is 17.3 feet long.

Where Was the 2016 Lincoln MKT Built?

Lincoln built the 2016 MKT in Canada.
