2014 Lincoln MKT Overview

Is the 2014 Lincoln MKT a Good Used SUV?

If you are looking for a luxury midsize SUV with soft-touch materials, a quiet cabin, and a comfortable ride, the 2014 Lincoln MKT is a great option. Some rivals offer more agility and more user-friendly infotainment systems, however.

Used 2014 Lincoln MKT Performance and Interior

Both of the engines available in the 2014 Lincoln MKT – a 303-horsepower base V6 and a 365-horsepower twin-turbocharged V6 – deliver solid power. Each is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The base engine provides substantial acceleration and a smooth, laid-back ride. The Lincoln MKT EcoBoost engine accelerates even more quickly and makes this luxury crossover’s weight less noticeable. Nonetheless, the MKT can feel bulky in tight parking situations. All-wheel drive is standard in the EcoBoost trim and front-wheel drive is standard with the base model. The base engine only delivers 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, which is a little low for the class. The twin-turbocharged V6 delivers 16 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway.

Featuring standard heated and cooled leather front seats, the MKT’s interior is of the utmost quality. The MKT's features list is good, but the MyLincoln Touch infotainment system comes with a learning curve due to its abundance of buttons and controls. It can also be sluggish to react when users click through menu options. SUVs like the Ford Flex have more passenger and cargo space, but the 3-row MKT has adequate room in its first two rows of seats. Its third row, however, is best suited to kids or for storing additional items. Some models come with heated and cooled second-row captain’s chairs, which reduce seating capacity from seven to six. There are two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors in the second row and one on the third-row passenger-side seat.

All models come with first- and second-row leather seats, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, an 8-inch touch screen, a sunroof, heated and cooled front seats, heated second-row outboard seats, a power liftgate, tri-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker audio system, two USB ports, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. Some models come with a navigation system, HD Radio, a 14-speaker audio system, and a heated steering wheel.

Should I Consider Another Used MKT?

The 2014 Lincoln MKT is a part of a generation that started in 2010 and includes the 2018 model year. The MKT received a midgeneration refresh in 2013, so models made before 2013 will be significantly different. No major changes were made for the 2014 or 2015 model years. By opting for a 2013 MKT, you'll get a similar vehicle to the 2014 or 2015 model for less money.

Which Used Lincoln MKT Is Right for Me?

The 2014 Lincoln MKT comes in two trim levels: base and EcoBoost. When talking about features, the base trim is plentiful and will satisfy the average buyer. The EcoBoost trim, however, performs better and comes with all-wheel drive. LincolnDrive Control is also included in this trim. This feature adds electric power-assisted steering and features three drive modes (Sport, Normal, and Comfort) to enhance overall ride quality.

Despite the MKT’s average reliability rating, you may want to consider a certified pre-owned vehicle. For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Lincoln extends its original new-car warranty to six years or 100,000 miles. Lincoln puts its CPO vehicles through a 200-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Lincoln warranty page carefully.

2014 Lincoln MKT and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Lincoln MKT or 2014 Lincoln MKX?

Like its corporate sibling, the 2014 Lincoln MKX has a complicated infotainment system, but the MKX’s reliability score is slightly better (four out of five). Still, the MKT has better crash test scores, and some models come with the EcoBoost engine. Both SUVs are well-equipped and deliver a comfortable ride. Choosing between these SUVs comes down to how many people you need to seat and how much cargo space you want: the MKT seats seven, while the MKX seats five. When choosing between these two factors, keep in mind that the MKT’s third row is not ideally suited for adults. Even so, the MKT has an extra 7 cubic feet of total cargo space, and its interior is roomier.

Which Is Better: 2014 Lincoln MKT or 2014 Ford Flex?

The 2014 Ford Flex is an affordable midsize SUV that can keep up with the likes of the MKT. Both SUVs seat seven, but the Flex has more interior room and cargo space. This means that while the MKT cannot seat adults comfortably in the third row, the Flex has no problem doing so. The MKT has nicer interior materials, but both SUVs suffer from hard-to-use infotainment systems. With a luxury badge comes luxury features; the MKT follows suit with a greater collection of standard features. Still, the Flex is a fine alternative to the MKT – and it comes at a lower cost. If you care more about space, go for the Flex. If you cannot do without luxury accommodations, choose the MKT.

Which Is Better: 2014 Lincoln MKT or 2014 Acura MDX?

The 2014 Acura MDX is a capable luxury midsize SUV with abundant power from its sole engine choice, and it offers a good balance of ride comfort and agile handling. It has a high-quality interior, a generous host of features, and more cargo space than the MKT. Yet, the MDX suffers from the lowest reliability score possible (two out of five), which knocks it down in our rankings. It also has higher ownership costs. Overall, the MKT is the better SUV.
