2012 Lincoln MKT Review

Auto writers said the 2012 Lincoln MKT has great road manners, a luxurious cabin and a peppy turbocharged engine, but some said its third row has limited headroom.

Pros & Cons

  • Impressive handling
  • Smooth ride
  • Limited third-row headroom

2012 Lincoln MKT Overview

The 2012 Lincoln MKT comes standard with a V6 engine and front-wheel drive. An all-wheel drive model is available, which is powered by a turbocharged V6 and reviewers said this model has brisk acceleration. A six-speed automatic transmission comes with either engine. With the base engine, the 2012 MKT gets an EPA-estimated 17/24 mpg city/highway, which is competitive with similar rivals’ estimates. Test drivers said the MKT has sharp steering and feels surprisingly nimble in corners. It also has a stable, smooth ride, they noted.

The automotive press said the 2012 Lincoln MKT’s cabin has a premium feel with decent fit and finish. Test drivers said that both the first and second rows are comfortable and offer plenty of legroom, but the third row doesn't offer much headroom. The MKT has 75.9 cubic feet of cargo space, which is on par with the cargo space of rival three-row midsize luxury SUVs. The 2012 Lincoln MKT comes standard with leather seats, front seats that are heated, ventilated and power-adjustable, heated second-row outboard seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a power liftgate, a 10-speaker CD audio system with satellite radio and Ford’s voice-controlled SYNC system with Bluetooth. Available features include a panoramic sunroof, parallel park assist, blind spot warning, power-folding third-row seats, a 14-speaker surround-sound audio system, voice-controlled navigation, a rear-entertainment system, a refrigerated console and heated and ventilated second-row captain's chairs. Reviewers said the MKT’s audio, climate and navigation controls are easy to use and were impressed with the MKT's wealth of available features.

Other SUVs to Consider

Test drivers said the 2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class has a spacious third row that will accommodate adults, which is rare praise in this class. It also has a larger cargo hold than many rivals, including the MKT.

Reviewers said the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is extremely capable off-road and has nimble handling and a composed ride on pavement. They were also impressed with its powerful V8 engine and opulent interior appointments.
