2010 Lincoln MKT Overview

The 2010 Lincoln MKT comes with Ford’s Sync voice-controlled infotainment interface, a choice between two V6 engines and seating for up to seven. Its safety scores are some of the best in the class. When it was new, reviewers said it has a smooth, comfortable ride, and many raved about its performance after driving it back-to-back with the more expensive 2010 Audi Q7. They said it feels sure-footed and feels planted while cornering, along with enough power to make this hulking SUV feel quick.

The Lincoln MKT’s list of standard features is fairly long, including adjustable pedals, a power liftgate, leather and wood-trimmed steering wheel and tri-zone automatic climate control. But reviewers were also impressed with the MKT’s list of optional features when it was new, which include family-oriented tech like a refrigerated center console in the second row, a power-folding third row and heated and cooled second-row seats. Fuel economy is just average, at 17/23 mpg city/highway in front-wheel drive models and 16/22 mpg city/highway in all-wheel drive models.

The Lincoln MKT isn’t perfect, though. While its third row has good legroom, headroom is compromised by the MKT’s sloping back. Its handling isn’t particularly sporty either. Some test drivers questioned whether the MKT is worth the extra money over its less-expensive Ford sibling, the Flex. If you’re looking for a luxury SUV that can pull double duty as an off-roader, or want an SUV that’s a bit sporty, you might want to shop elsewhere. But reviewers agreed that for most family SUV buyers, the Lincoln MKT is a great choice.

Other Cars to Consider

If you want an SUV that’s more fun to drive than the MKT, consider the 2010 Acura MDX. Reviewers said it’s sporty for a seven-seat SUV. Its third row of seats won’t be quite as roomy as the MKT’s, but it gets excellent safety ratings and test drivers said its interior is well-made.

Shoppers who need a bit more off-road ability and have more money to spend should consider the 2010 Lexus GX. The GX is based on the Toyota 4Runner, so it’s excellent off-road. Its interior is upscale, but the GX’s third row isn’t quite as spacious as the MKT’s. Although its fuel economy is terrible, the GX is one of the best combinations of able off-roader and luxury family hauler in its class.
