2015 Lexus RX Hybrid Overview

Is the 2015 Lexus RX Hybrid a Good Used SUV?

The 2-row 2015 Lexus RX Hybrid is a great option if you’re shopping for a used luxury midsize SUV. It has everything that’s great about the nonhybrid Lexus RX 350 but with better fuel economy. The RX Hybrid – also referred to as the Lexus RX 450h – pleases with its smooth ride, roomy seating for five, generous cargo space, and excellent safety and reliability ratings. But it’s not perfect. Lexus’ infotainment controller is awkward to use, and its aged interior looks well beyond its prime.

Used 2015 Lexus RX Hybrid Performance and Interior

The Lexus RX Hybrid has a V6 engine and an electric motor that yield a combined 295 horsepower. A continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard; all-wheel drive is available. The hybrid setup feels refined and enables confident acceleration and strong passing power. It also delivers great fuel economy of 31 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway (29/27 mpg with AWD).

The RX Hybrid’s pliant suspension provides a comfortable and pleasant ride, and bumps in the road are smoothed out nicely. This crossover SUV feels well-planted and stable in tight turns, but its steering is heavier than expected. The RX 450h has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.

The Lexus RX 450h seats five and its spacious cabin provides great head- and legroom in both rows. The front seats are soft and comfortable but somewhat short on lateral and thigh support. The rear seats are similarly cozy and can slide and recline to better accommodate passengers. Cloth upholstery is standard; leather is available, as are heated and ventilated front seats. There are two full sets of LATCH connectors for securing child car seats. The 40/20/40-split rear seats can also fold flat, boosting cargo space from 40 to 80.3 cubic feet. The cabin remains quiet at highway speeds and forward visibility is excellent, but the dated dashboard feels shy of luxury standards.

Lexus equips all 2015 RX 450h models with a 7-inch display screen, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free voice recognition, a power liftgate, and remote keyless entry. Available features include navigation, dual rear-seat DVD screens, and a head-up display that projects pertinent information onto the windshield. The standard infotainment system, operated by turning a dial on the center console, is easy to use. Models equipped with navigation receive Lexus’ Remote Touch system, which features a mouselike controller that can be distracting to use when driving.

Should I Consider Another Used Lexus RX?

The 2015 Lexus RX Hybrid marks the sixth and final model year of the vehicle’s second generation, which launched for 2010. The 2013 model received several exterior styling updates, as well as a standard power liftgate. There were no major changes for 2014, but a rearview camera and a touch screen were added to the standard features list for 2015. You may want to consider a used 2015 Lexus RX 350 as well. The nonhybrid RX 350 is typically less expensive than the RX 450h, though it has the same features.

Which Used Lexus RX Hybrid Is Right for Me?

The 2015 Lexus RX Hybrid is only available in one trim. The standard Lexus RX 450h has a 7-inch infotainment screen, Bluetooth, a USB port, Siri Eyes Free voice recognition, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, and a power liftgate. Available features include heated and ventilated front seats, a moonroof, and rear-seat DVD players. You may want to avoid models equipped with the available navigation system, as these vehicles feature an awkward and often frustrating infotainment controller.

You may also want to shop for a certified pre-owned Lexus RX Hybrid. For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Lexus extends its original new-car warranty to cover six years or unlimited mileage. Lexus puts its CPO vehicles through a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Lexus warranty page carefully.

2015 Lexus RX Hybrid and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Lexus RX Hybrid or 2015 Audi Q5?

The 2015 Audi Q5 has a more luxurious interior, sportier handling, quicker acceleration, and a more robust 4,400-pound towing capacity. The Lexus is the better buy, though. The RX Hybrid offers substantially more cargo space, higher fuel economy and predicted reliability ratings, and additional driver assist features like forward collision warning. Used RX Hybrids are typically available at a lower price point as well.

Which Is Better: 2015 Lexus RX Hybrid or 2015 Infiniti QX60?

The 2015 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid offers seating for seven and higher-quality interior materials than the Lexus RX Hybrid. Used QX60s are often available at lower prices as well. However, the Infiniti is a tough SUV to recommend due to its below-average predicted reliability rating and lower fuel economy.

Which Is Better: 2015 Lexus RX Hybrid or 2015 Lexus NX Hybrid?

The RX Hybrid’s toughest competition comes from its smaller sibling: the Lexus NX Hybrid. The NX 300h has higher fuel economy (34/30 mpg) and a far nicer interior. Both vehicles offer the same advanced safety features and excellent reliability ratings. Go with the Lexus RX for zippier acceleration and a larger cargo space. Go with the NX for sleeker styling and a lower price point. Both are great picks.
