Note: This interior review was created when the 2014 Lexus RX 350 was new.

Interior: 8.4

Automotive journalists are generally pleased with the 2014 Lexus RX 350's upscale interior. They say the seats are comfortable and rear passengers have plenty of legroom. Test drivers like both the standard and optional sound systems, saying they deliver great sound quality. Some think the optional Lexus Remote Touch system's mouse-like controller is distracting. Cargo space in the RX 350 is great for the class, and reviewers say it has lots of storage compartments in the cabin.

  • "Upscale appointments and exceptional cabin materials make the 2014 Lexus RX 350 look and feel suitably expensive." -- Edmunds
  • "The RX's cabin is warm, polished and cozy, but not quite as sophisticated as some European rivals." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The injection of sport does the RX cabin well." -- Autoblog (2013 F Sport)

The 2014 Lexus RX 350 seats five and comes standard with fabric-trimmed seats and 10-way power-adjustable front seats. Heated and ventilated front seats, as well as leather upholstery, are available. Reviewers agree that the RX 350's reclining and sliding rear seats offer passengers plenty of legroom. Reviewers also note the Lexus RX 350's interior is quiet and its seats are comfortable.

  • "Rear passenger legroom is good, and the 40/20/40-folding rear seat is able to recline and slide to accommodate people or cargo." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "When it comes to ride quality, the 2014 Lexus RX 350 doesn't disappoint. The compliant suspension and plentiful sound insulation isolate passengers from the outside world in a silent bubble of luxury." -- Edmunds
  • "The seats (identical in shape and bolstering to the standard models) are comfortable and we like the perforated leather on the steering wheel and the Ebony Bird's Eye Maple trim." -- Autoblog (2013)

Interior Features

Standard features on the Lexus RX 350 include a nine-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a USB port, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Optional features include navigation, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, HD Radio, a 15-speaker Mark Levinson stereo system, a pre-collision warning system, a pre-braking system, a rear-seat entertainment system and blind-spot monitoring.

Reviewers are pleased with both the standard stereo system and the optional Mark Levinson sound system; one saying the latter is one of the best audio systems available. Some auto writers are disappointed with the Lexus Remote Touch system, which is a mouse-like controller that’s used to access many audio and navigation settings. One critic says Remote Touch is distracting and draws too much attention away from the road, while another reviewer claims that the Remote Touch system's wrist rest is too big and that the overall ergonomics of the dashboard are inconvenient.

  • "Still, amenities abound, from the plush seats to the power tilt and telescoping steering wheel. Starting and stopping the Lexus is done with the press of a button, and even the base audio unit is impressive with its nine speakers." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "When you opt for the Display Audio or Navigation packages you also get the Lexus Remote Touch system, which is a mouselike device that allows the user to move among a variety of icons on a large, centrally located screen. It's a nice idea and adds to the luxury ambience, but in practice we've found that the cumbersome on-screen menus and the controller's imprecise nature draw too much of your attention away from the road. On the upside, the optional Mark Levinson audio is one of the best sound systems on the market." -- Edmunds
  • "We found the interior ergonomics compromised - form over function. The asymmetric dashboard appears interesting at first glance, but the controls are haphazardly placed across its face and there is an obvious lack of flat and easily accessible storage space for frequently used items (such as rectangular mobile phones). The traditional transmission shift lever always seems to be in the way, and the wrist rest for the automaker's Remote Touch interface (replacing the touchscreen display) is massive." -- Autoblog (2013)

The 2014 Lexus RX 350 has 80.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 40 cubic feet of room with them in use. The RX 350 offers a great amount of cargo space for the class, and reviewers say there are lots of storage bins in the cabin.

  • "There's also ample luggage and cargo space, with as much as 40 cubic feet behind the 40/20/40-split-folding rear seats and 80 cubes with them stowed." -- Edmunds
  • "Passengers will appreciate the impressive rear-seat legroom and the copious cargo storage that includes numerous bins and cubbies." -- Kelley Blue Book
