2012 Lexus RX 350 Review

Though other SUVs may be more athletic, reviewers liked the 2012 Lexus RX 350's tranquil ride, premium cabin materials and exceptionally comfortable seats.

Pros & Cons

  • Serene ride quality
  • Lackluster handling

2012 Lexus RX 350 Overview

When it was new, reviewers said the Lexus RX 350's standard V6 engine is quiet, and delivers plenty of power. They added that the 2012 RX 350’s six-speed automatic transmission is responsive and quick-shifting. At up to an EPA-estimated 18/25 mpg city/highway, the 2012 RX 350's fuel economy is slightly better than what many SUVs in the class get. Test drivers said the RX 350's handling is relatively controlled, but they noticed some body roll. Additionally, some noted that you can't speed through corners with the athleticism of rivals like the BMW X3. Most agreed that the RX 350 is very comfortable over rough roads, however. Reviewers added that the RX 350's steering offers sufficient feedback and that its brakes have plenty of stopping power.

Auto journalists liked that the 2012 Lexus RX 350's cabin features soft leather, lots of padded surfaces and classy wood trim. They noted that the front seats offer ample space and are comfortable for long periods of time. The back seats also earned praise for their roominess, and some critics added that the rear bench has enough room for comfortable seating for three. A nine-speaker stereo system, a USB port, Bluetooth, dual-zone automatic climate control and sliding and reclining rear seats are standard on the RX 350. Available features include an upgraded Mark Levinson stereo system, adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, navigation and a rear-seat entertainment system. The RX 350 offers up to 80.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which is more than what many two-row rival SUVs offer.

When it was new, we named the 2012 Lexus RX 350 our 2012 Best Luxury Midsize SUV for the Money.

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class has an excellent safety score and gets good fuel economy with its available diesel engine. The M-Class also comes standard with all-wheel drive, and reviewers said it has a smooth ride and a classy, quiet interior.
