2019 Lexus RC Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.1

The 2019 RC has a luxurious cabin full of quality materials. Up front, the seats are comfortable and roomy, though the back seats are too cramped for taller adults. There are plenty of standard features, but the Remote Touch infotainment interface can be frustrating to use. Cargo space is also below average for the class.

  • "The RC matches is comely exterior with a cozy, enveloping interior that's trimmed in generally high-quality materials." -- CNET
  • "In the Lexus tradition, materials are first-rate and the fit/finish is exacting." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "Its interior is flat-out gorgeous … Design and materials are excellent, perhaps class-leading." -- Edmunds (2017)

Seating

The RC seats four people and comes standard with leatherette upholstery, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. Heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, and a heated steering wheel are available. F Sport models have front sport seats with added side support. There are two sets of LATCH connections for securing child car seats in the rear seats.

Adults can sit comfortably in the front row, but space in the back is tight for taller passengers.

  • There's plenty of room for front occupants to stretch out, though back-seat passengers will need to be average-sized or smaller to remain comfortable during extended drives." -- CNET
  • The RC F's seats have enough bolstering to hold you in place and enough padding to keep you comfortable. They're wide enough to accommodate most drivers, although some may find the bolsters push their shoulders forward. The rear seats are nicely contoured and padded as well." -- Edmunds
  • It's a 2-door coupe, which means the 2018 Lexus RC has long doors, which can be an issue in tight parking spaces. It seats four as long as the rear-seat passengers are small and don't mind cramped quarters. Up front the seats are comfortable in all trims and feature extra bolstering in RC Sport and RC F models …" -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)

Interior Features

Lexus outfits the RC with a long list of standard features, such as push-button start, proximity keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, a USB port, Bluetooth, a 10-speaker premium sound system, HD Radio, satellite radio, Siri Eyes Free, the Lexus Enform App Suite, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a 7-inch display screen, and Scout GPS Link (smartphone integrated) navigation. Several safety features are included too, such as a rearview camera and the Lexus Safety System+ suite of driver assistance technologies (a pre-collision warning and braking system with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control).

Optional equipment includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, a 10.3-inch display with a built-in navigation system and the Remote Touch interface, a moonroof, and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium sound system. Android Auto is not offered.

The standard 7-inch screen is mounted far back in the dash and can be hard to see. The larger screen fixes this, but it comes with Lexus’ Remote Touch infotainment system, which is difficult to use.

  • "And then there's the Lexus Remote Touch infotainment interface. Its trackpad-based controller is not as awful as the mouse-based controller in the IS, but the RC's system requires you to divert your attention from the road in order to ensure you're selecting your intended point on the trackpad. … It's maddening, but at least the RC offers standard Apple CarPlay, which helps ease the anger with access to superior phone-based navigation. Still, there's no escaping Remote Touch. It's just as hard using it to navigate through Apple CarPlay as it is to maneuver through the built-in Lexus Enform infotainment menus." -- CNET
  • "The technology in the RC F is simply outclassed by its competitors in terms of advancement and ease of use. Tech is one place the Lexus falls distinctly behind." -- Edmunds
  • "Our one complaint is that the 7-inch screen is set back and slightly recessed, so the leading edge of the dash is higher than the bottom of the screen. This could hide information along the screen's lowest section, depending on how high the driver sits." -- Autotrader (2015)

Cargo

At 10.4 cubic feet, the RC’s trunk is one of the smallest in the class. However, it has a wide opening and deep load floor, both of which make it easier to load large objects. The rear seats fold down, but doing so down leaves a high step and an uneven load floor.

  • The RC F doesn't have folding rear seats, so you're limited to a small pass-through if the minuscule 10.1-cubic-foot trunk isn't enough. But while the trunk is tiny for the class, it provides a deep, flat load floor and relatively wide opening. For what it is, it's quite usable." -- Edmunds
  • "Storage space is likewise limited. … Cargo space can be expanded by folding the rear seat backs, but doing so leaves about a 6-inch-high 'step,' so large boxes can't just be slid forward; as such, it's really more useful for long, light items such as skis. By the same token, interior storage is somewhat meager, with just a decent-sized 2-tiered glovebox, a smallish console box … and narrow map pockets in the doors." -- Consumer Guide (2015)
  • "The RC suffers from a lack of storage." -- Left Lane News (2015)
