2019 Lexus NX Hybrid Overview

Is the 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid a Good Used SUV?

Yes, the 2019 NX Hybrid is a good used SUV. It gets good gas mileage and comes with plenty of tech features, and it has two rows of spacious, comfortable seats. It also earns one of the highest predicted reliability ratings in the luxury hybrid and electric SUV class.

However, the NX Hybrid doesn't provide much athleticism, and the ride isn't that smooth over rough pavement. Interior quality is merely so-so by luxury SUV standards, and the infotainment system is frustrating and distracting to use. This Lexus also has a subpar cargo capacity.

2019 Lexus NX Hybrid Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid or 2019 Lexus RX Hybrid?

The 2019 Lexus RX Hybrid finishes above the NX Hybrid in our luxury hybrid and electric SUV rankings, and it's a better pick than the NX Hybrid. The RX Hybrid has more room for cargo and passengers than the NX Hybrid, including an optional third row, letting you seat up to seven. It also has a more upscale cabin, a stronger powertrain, and a comfier ride. The smaller Lexus gets better gas mileage, but that's its only advantage, and the difference is only a couple mpg.

Which Is Better: 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid or 2019 Lexus NX 300?

The nonhybrid 2019 Lexus NX 300 is a good alternative to the Lexus NX 300h if you don't care about getting the best gas mileage. These two have a lot of similarities, as you probably guessed, but the nonhybrid NX feels more energetic, handles better, and gives you a bit more cargo space.

2019 NX Hybrid Performance

How Does the 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid Drive?

Standard all-wheel drive gives the NX Hybrid solid road grip, but this still isn't a dynamic SUV. There's a lot of body roll when taking turns, and several rivals are more agile. This Lexus rides smoothly over even pavement, but the suspension doesn't easily absorb larger impacts.

All NX Hybrid models have the same 194-horsepower powertrain. It provides ample acceleration and feels right at home on city streets, though it can feel weak at highway speeds. It also tends to drone loudly when strained.

We cover the nonhybrid 2019 Lexus NX in a separate review.

  • Powertrain: 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor with a combined 194 horsepower
  • Drivetrain: all-wheel drive
  • Transmission: continuously variable automatic (CVT)
Does the 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid Get Good Gas Mileage?

The NX Hybrid gets 33 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Those are good ratings for a luxury hybrid SUV, and they're excellent compared to nonhybrid luxury compact SUVs.

2019 NX Hybrid Interior

How Many People Does the 2019 NX Hybrid Seat?

The 2019 NX Hybrid seats five people in two rows. The cabin looks decent, but the mixed materials quality leaves it a step or two below the nicest interiors in the class. Both rows of seats are comfortable, spacious, and supportive, though driver visibility is a bit limited.

Standard seating features:

  • Synthetic leather upholstery
  • Power-adjustable driver's seat
  • Reclining rear seats

Available seating features:

  • Genuine leather upholstery
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Power-folding rear seats
  • Heated steering wheel
How Many Child Car Seats Fit in the 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid?

The 2019 NX Hybrid has two complete sets of LATCH car-seat connectors for the rear outboard seats and an upper tether for the rear middle seat.

2019 Lexus NX Hybrid Features

The NX Hybrid doesn't have a touch screen. Instead, you control its infotainment system via the Remote Touch controller, a trackpad located on the center console. It carries a learning curve because it's not intuitive, and it's distracting to use while driving. Nearly every competitor has a more user-friendly infotainment setup.

  • Standard infotainment features: an 8-inch display, smartphone app navigation, smartphone integration with the Enform App Suite, Siri Eyes Free, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, a USB port, an eight-speaker audio system, HD Radio, and satellite radio
