For the NX Hybrid, the 2015 model year marks the start of a generation that includes the 2019 model. The 2016 NX Hybrid gains an available Lexus Enform Remote smartphone app, while the 2017 NX Hybrid received standard all-wheel drive. For 2018, the NX Hybrid got a slight refresh with updated styling, a larger infotainment display, and additional standard safety features like lane keep assist and pedestrian detection.

If you're willing to stretch your budget, we recommend the refreshed 2018 NX Hybrid. If not, stick with the 2015 NX Hybrid.

There is only one trim of the 2015 NX Hybrid, but it comes with a solid list of standard features. Standard amenities include synthetic leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, a rearview camera, and a 7-inch infotainment system with an eight-speaker audio system, satellite radio, and HD Radio.

When it was new, the NX 300h was available with many upgrades, including heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, a moonroof, a 10-speaker audio system, and navigation.

How Safe Is the NX Hybrid?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety did not perform crash tests on the 2015 NX Hybrid, but they did test the nonhybrid 2015 NX. It gained the prestigious Top Safety Pick+ designation and the highest rating of Good in all crash tests performed. The IIHS also gave the 2015 NX the second-highest rating of Advanced for front crash prevention.

The National Highway Traffic Safety gave the 2015 NX an overall rating of five out of five stars, with four stars in frontal crash and rollover tests and five stars in the side crash test.

The NX Hybrid comes standard with a rearview camera. Blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are available.

The turbocharged 2015 Lexus NX 200t is a better choice for those who prioritize performance over fuel efficiency. The nonhybrid NX has responsive steering, a better brake feel, and more horsepower than the NX Hybrid. It also comes with more cargo space and a lower average list price. This powertrain has sluggish acceleration, and it exhibits a loud droning noise when pushed hard. And while this Lexus has poised handling, its regenerative brakes aren't very responsive.
