2017 Lexus LX Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2017 Lexus LX was new.

Interior: 6.8

The 2017 Lexus LX 570 offers elegant interior styling and first-class materials. Still, the overall cabin look isn't as contemporary as those in competing SUVs. The first two rows of seats are spacious, but the third row doesn't have enough space for adults, which is common for the segment. The infotainment system's Remote Touch controller is difficult to use, but the optional rear-seat entertainment system is great. The LX has much less cargo room than most of its competitors.

  • "There's no mistaking the 2017 Lexus LX 570 for anything other than a well-appointed luxury SUV when you spot the posh leather- and wood-lined cabin." -- Edmunds
  • "The posh interior offers room for eight passengers so everyone can tag along, even if your adventure is decidedly urban." -- Car and Driver (2016)
  • "… it's comfortable, quiet and refined. You're surrounded by the finest leather, beautifully crafted wood trim, and all the luxury trappings you can imagine." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)

There are seats for eight in the 2017 LX 570. Leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats and power-sliding second-row seats are standard. Heated and ventilated first- and second-row seats and a heated steering wheel are available. Up front, the seats are comfortable and create a great view of the road. Those in the second row will find plenty of room, but some may think the seats are positioned a bit too low. The third row is confined and offers only enough room for children, which is true of most luxury large SUVs with 3-rows.

The LX has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for car seats in its second row. There are no LATCH connectors in its third row.

  • "One aspect of the LX's interior that continues to impress is seat comfort, at least in the first two rows. The front seats offer excellent visibility from their elevated perches, and though the second-row bottom cushions could be higher, there's still plenty of headroom and legroom. But the three-across third row is a different story. It just isn't wide enough for adults, and it's difficult to access. In a vehicle as big as the LX 570, it's fair to expect a third-row seat that's not just for kids, and this third-row just isn't." -- Edmunds
  • "Unfortunately, the power front seats lack the extensive adjustability found in many LX rivals, while the second-row seats are surprisingly low to the floor and the third row is too cramped for adult comfort." -- Autotrader (2015)
  • "One downside to the interior is less space than one might expect given the SUV's size. Though the LX 570 technically has room for eight passengers, the third row is cramped and best left to children." -- Left Lane News (2015)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2017 Lexus LX include a moonroof, quad-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch display, Lexus' Remote Touch controller, navigation, a nine-speaker audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, USB ports, Bluetooth, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning with automatic braking.

Optional features include a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system, a 19-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound system, wireless smartphone charging, a head-up display, and Lexus' Enform Remote, which lets drivers control some vehicle systems via a smartphone.

Lexus' Remote Touch controller is used to operate its infotainment system. The controller is similar to a computer mouse, and it can be distracting for drivers trying to select menu options. The cabin has lots of physical controls, which look fitting inside an off-road-oriented SUV. With the optional rear-seat entertainment system's large 11.6-inch touch screen, you can practically create a movie theater in your back rows. The available stereo upgrade also produces excellent sound quality.

  • "Upfront is a sharp-looking 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Unfortunately, it's tied to Lexus' Remote Touch interface, which uses a mouse-like controller on the center console. The system is often distracting to use because it can be difficult to select the right commands with the controller." -- Edmunds
  • "Rear-seat entertainment systems are nothing new, but the dual 11.6-inch screens available in the 2016 LX 570 are something else. Bigger than many laptop screens, they provide a cinematic experience that your pampered (spoiled) little ones will otherwise loudly demand." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • "There's no shortage of switches an[d] control knobs, a look that works well with the LX's rugged positioning." -- Left Lane News (2013)

The 2017 Lexus LX has 15.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row, 41 cubic feet behind the second row, and 83.1 cubic feet with both rear rows folded. That is one of the smallest cargo capacities in the class. A power liftgate and power-folding third-row seats are standard. The third-row seats fold to the side, rather than into the floor, which provides a flat storage floor but reduces the usable width in the cargo area.

  • "And problematically, the third row doesn't fold flat - you fold it up against the side walls and that means less cargo space." -- Edmunds
  • "Unlike most other 3rd-row seats, those in the LX 570 do not fold forward but to the sides. This creates a flat load floor, but eats up valuable room on the sides." -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)
  • "The third row powers up against the cargo walls when not needed, which ultimately reduces storage capacity compared to most rivals. Fault the off road-oriented solid rear axle for prohibiting in-floor storage." -- Left Lane News (2013)
