2013 Lexus LX Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 Lexus LX was new.

Interior: 8.0

Reviewers are impressed with the 2013 Lexus LX 570's cabin, noting an abundance of high-quality materials, soft leather seats and a quiet, comfortable ride. Test drivers say the LX 570’s wood trim is tasteful, and that the LX's large overall size gives the driver a commanding view of the road.

  • "Otherwise, the LX 570 makes a fantastic road trip partner. Enough sound deadening to build a recording studio keeps any hint of wind or road noise at bay, while the commanding seating position and wide windshield help drivers look down on everything other than 18-wheelers." -- Left Lane News
  • "Step inside the LX 570 and you'll find a cabin that's every bit as stylish as any Lexus sedan. Supple leather upholstery for each of the eight seating positions is complemented by wood accents, and this luxury lounge effect is amplified by the LX 570's comprehensive array of standard and optional features." -- Edmunds
  • "Material selections are Lexus smart - not over-the-top luxurious, like in a Land Rover, but still very nice and tasteful. Real wood trim hides under many layers of thick poly coating, but still looks real enough to justify its existence." -- Forbes

The 2013 Lexus LX 570 seats up to eight people in three rows on standard leather seats. Power-adjustable, heated front seats are standard, while air-conditioned front seats, heated middle-row seats and a heated steering wheel are optional. Reviewers report that the front- and middle-row seats are comfortable and spacious, though some say that the third row lacks sufficient head- and legroom, which makes it best for kids. Another test driver notes that Lexus' standard Easy Access System makes it easier to enter and exit the LX by retracting the steering wheel and sliding the driver's seat back.

  • "Both the power-adjustable front seats and the 60/40-split power-adjustable second-row bench offer exceptionally comfortable accommodations. The 50/50-split third-row seat, on the other hand, is short on both legroom and headroom, making it really only suitable for kids." -- Edmunds
  • "Roominess is another LX forte. Front seat passengers are treated to heated, cooled and multi-adjustable thrones, while even the second row gets good leg and head room." -- Left Lane News
  • "Getting in and out a big, high vehicle such as the Lexus LX 570 can be an awkward affair, especially if you're one to have the front seat and steering wheel close together. This feature [Easy Access System] eases what we call ingress and egress - entering and exiting - by retracting the steering wheel and driver's seat for more room." -- Kelley Blue Book

Interior Features

The 2013 Lexus LX 570 comes with a nine-speaker stereo, satellite radio, navigation, a USB port, Bluetooth, a backup camera and quad-zone automatic climate control. Major options include a 19-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system, a rear-seat entertainment system with dual screens, wide-view front and side cameras and adaptive cruise control.

Reviewers are pleased with the LX's features, saying that the optional Mark Levinson system delivers great sound. They also like that the rear-seat DVD screens are mounted in the headrests, which means they don't impede rearward visibility like they would if they were hung from the roof. Test drivers also like the LX’s straightforward touch-screen controls, but some wish there were buttons for radio presets.

  • "A very handy dual screen rear seat entertainment system puts the screens on the back of the front headrests, so they don't interfere with the driver's outward visibility, and they come with two wireless headphones, so that the insipid kids' programs don't interfere with the driver's sanity." -- Forbes
  • "On the other hand, Lexus' touchscreen infotainment system makes its appearance mercifully without the goofy computer mouse-style controller seen elsewhere in the brand's portfolio. We'd still like to see redundant audio preset buttons, but the system is otherwise a benchmark in terms of simplicity." -- Left Lane News
  • "Tech features include radar-based cruise control and pre-collision system, a dual-screen DVD rear-seat entertainment system, surround camera system, and - for audio enthusiasts - a superb Mark Levinson audio system with 19 (yes, nineteen) speakers." -- Kelley Blue Book

Behind the third row, the Lexus LX 570 offers 15.5 cubic feet of cargo space. With the third row out of the way, there is 41 cubic feet of space and behind the first row there is a maximum of 83.1 cubic feet of cargo space. These figures are fairly low for the class. Models such as the Cadillac Escalade or Escalade ESV offer much more cargo space. Most reviewers still find the LX's overall cargo space useful, though many also complain that the third row folds to the sides of the cargo area, rather than into the floor, which eats up usable cargo space.

  • "The other downside to the third-row seat is that its two halves power fold toward the sides of the vehicle instead of folding flat into the floor. This means they eat into the usable cargo space behind the second row. There's still a healthy 41 cubic feet of cargo room behind the second row and a maximum of 83 cubic feet with both the second and third rows folded, but that's barely more than the much smaller Lexus RX 350." -- Edmunds
  • "Unlike most other 3rd-row seats, those in the LX 570 do not fold forward but to the sides. This creates a flat load floor, but eats up valuable room on the sides." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The third row powers up against the cargo walls when not needed, which ultimately reduces storage capacity compared to most rivals. Fault the off road-oriented solid rear axle for prohibiting in-floor storage." -- Left Lane News
  • "The body-on-frame design also means the load floor is very tall, and cargo room behind the third row of seats is close to zero." -- Automobile Magazine
