2011 Lexus LX Review

The 2011 Lexus LX is spacious and has a fairly luxurious interior, but reviewers said it doesn’t do enough to distinguish itself from its corporate cousin, the 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser. Still, the LX offers a great deal of utility, so if you regularly carry lots of passengers and cargo, tow a boat or go off-roading, critics said the LX is hard to beat.

Pros & Cons

  • Capable off-roader
  • Luxurious, comfortable interior
  • Plenty of power
  • Cramped third row

2011 Lexus LX Overview

When it was new, reviewers loved that the 2011 Lexus LX could do nearly anything they threw at it, all while surrounding its passengers in luxury.

With standard full-time four-wheel drive and an adjustable suspension, the LX is one of the most capable large SUVs for excursions that take you beyond paved roads. It is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 that reviewers found offered adequate power, but unfortunately, the LX isn’t the most fuel-efficient, returning an EPA rating of 12/18 mpg city/highway. The LX can tow up to 7,000 pounds and carry up to 83.1 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seats folded.

Inside, some reviewers said that the LX is opulent, though some noted that the interior design doesn’t live up to the expectations of a Lexus. That aside, the first two rows of seats drew high marks for comfort, while the third row was noted for being somewhat cramped, which is a common complaint. Standard equipment includes leather upholstery, a power liftgate, four-zone climate control, a rearview camera, a nine-speaker stereo, navigation, Bluetooth and a USB port.

Other SUVs to Consider

While shopping for a luxury large SUV, you should consider the 2011 Mercedes-Benz GL. Like the Lexus, the GL has a comfortable and high-quality interior. It isn’t a capable off-roader like the Lexus, but reviewers found it to be a smooth cruiser on paved roads. Additionally, the base GL comes with a fuel-efficient diesel engine.

Another model to consider is the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover. Reviewers said it is more than capable off-road, and surrounds its occupants in luxury. One downside is that it can only seat five.
