2007 Lexus LX Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2007 Lexus LX was new.

Interior: 8.8

The LX 470's edge in the market is that it has quite possibly the most luxurious interior of any SUV built. "For a vehicle so tough," says Edmunds, "the 2007 Lexus LX 470 does a splendid job of being luxurious. The interior is overstuffed with luxurious toys, the leather on the upholstery is supple and perfectly stitched, the ride is well mannered and the drivetrain operates in virtual silence."

Few complaints about the interior can be found. The third row of seating is small enough that Auto Mall USA says the LX 470 offers "room for eight people, and seats six luxuriously." Forbes cautions that, "despite the addition of running boards, shorter passengers still may find it difficult to climb in." Lexus has even addressed this issue, however, as "the adjustable-height suspension at its lowest setting helps in this regard."

The front seats of the LX-470, notes MSN, "sit high for a good view of surroundings."  Consumer Guide adds "Drivers have commanding views, though headrests are minor obstructions aft." Edmunds calls the front seats "relatively flat but beautifully upholstered in leather that's almost too good to sit upon."

The second row of seating is a 60/40 split bench with climate control for each of the outboard passengers. "Second row passengers praised the comfort back there as well," comments a reviewer from About.com, "a very sharp-eyed critic and a frequent second row rider in my test SUVs now holds the LX 470's cabin as the epitome of luxury in the class."

Like many large SUVs, the third row seats are a tight fit for adults. "Third-row passengers have to squeeze into place and won't find much room for stretching out," writes Kelley Blue Book. Still, within the limitations of third row seats, these are successful. Auto Mall USA says "the rearmost jump seats are among the best of their type. They are comfortable and relatively easy to access," and About.com write "third row is adequate for short trips for adults. Though head room is good and leg room is sufficient, the hip to floor distance is a little too short for real comfort. At least it's pretty easy to clamber back there, as the second row easily folds and flips, leaving a big gap for entry."

Interior Features

For 2007, the LX 470 comes in only one, extremely well-appointed trim level. The list of standard features is so long that About.com comments "you're not going to get all the information that you need from this review...It's not that I don't want to provide you with all the info -- it's just that there's not enough space to list all of the features and benefits you'll find on the 2007 Lexus LX 470. It's that loaded." The long list of standard equipment includes four-zone automatic climate control, DVD-based navigation, heated 8-way power front seats, moonroof, leather that elicits praise from nearly every reviewer for its softness, a hydrocarbon sensor that automatically switches cabin air systems into recirculate mode when it detects a certain level of air pollution, and a standard sound system utilizing an incredible 11 speakers. A few options are available, such as a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, the unique Lexus Night Vision system and XM satellite radio -- but Lexus has made nearly every amenity standard equipment.

Stereo and Entertainment

There is only one sound system offered, but reviewers find it more than sufficient. An AM/FM/6-disc CD changer stereo with auxiliary mp3 input plays through 11 speakers, including a subwoofer and center channel. The system, built for Lexus by Mark Levinson, produces what Edmunds calls "the sort of sound clarity about which concert halls brag." XM Satellite radio and wireless headphones are available as optional additions to the system. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system (which can also play through the navigation screen when the vehicle is in park) is optional.

The total cargo capacity of the 2007 LX 470 is 90.4 cubic feet -- somewhat smaller than that of the Infiniti QX56 or the Cadillac Escalade. To get that amount of space, you'd need to fold down the second row of seats and remove the third. Auto Mall USA notes that, in lieu of removing the third row seats, "they can be folded aside when not in use, but they are big and take up cargo space." Consumer Guide says that folding the third row of seats and strapping it to the side walls of the cargo area is "a clumsy chore," and even when it is complete "there's still less room than in many newer rivals with easier folding arrangements." In its favor, with all of the seats in use, the LX 470 offers 19.1 cubic feet of storage space -- more than all of its rivals except the Infiniti QX56.
