2017 Lexus LS Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2017 Lexus LS was new.

Interior: 8.4

The 2017 Lexus LS has a luxurious cabin with top-notch materials and exceptional build quality. The front seats are spacious and supportive, and the rear seats are even more roomy and comfortable. Lexus' Remote Touch controller, which functions like a computer mouse, operates the infotainment system, but it is distracting and difficult to use.

  • "The 2017 Lexus LS's interior is proof that if you put in the effort you can get as close to perfect as imaginable. There is not a stitch out of place, not a flaw from headliner fit to carpet thread." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "This big Lexus sedan's cabin is meticulously appointed and carefully assembled. The leather is supple, the wood trim warm and rich and the rest of the interior materials substantial and attractive." -- Edmunds (2016)
  • "All the materials are of the highest quality, and craftsmanship is top-notch, and any place the driver touches is padded or polished." -- Car and Driver (2013)

The 2017 LS seats five and comes standard with leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and a power tilting-and-telescoping steering wheel. Optional features include a heated steering wheel, a power rear sunshade, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, and power-adjustable and massaging rear seats. The optional Executive-Class Seating package also includes a reclining passenger-side rear seat, a rear-seat tray table, and a rear center cooled console box, which reduces seating capacity to four.

The front seats are roomy and can be adjusted to support any body shape. The rear seats are even more comfortable and spacious, especially in models equipped with the Executive-Class Seating package.

  • "The ultimate in rear-passenger sumptuousness is found in the Executive Class package. The right-rear seat reclines, there's vibrating and shiatsu massage, a Blu-ray entertainment system and a wood-trimmed console table, making it as luxurious as any ride that's not in a corporate jet." -- Kelley Blue Book 2016
  • "Seat comfort … is simply outstanding up front, with wonderfully sculpted, multi-adjustable front buckets that can accommodate a variety of body types. Things get even better in back, especially on LS 460 L models, as the options list contains features that would be the envy of a day spa, including a massaging rear seat with near full recline and a powered ottoman." -- Edmunds (2016)
  • "The seats are gloriously supportive and highly adjustable to suit individual physiques." -- Autotrader (2014)

Interior Features

The 2017 LS comes standard with a 12.3-inch infotainment display, Lexus' Remote Touch controller, navigation, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth, a USB port, a power moonroof, a rearview camera, and front and rear parking sensors. Optional features include four-zone automatic climate control, a 19-speaker Mark Levinson surround sound system, a rear-seat entertainment system, Lexus Enform Remote smartphone integration, active lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, driver drowsiness monitoring, and forward collision warning with automatic braking.

The Remote Touch controller, which functions like a computer mouse, is too sensitive to movements. This makes it difficult to use, especially when driving, as it can pull the driver's attention from the road. Still, it is easy to reach from the driver's seat. Both the standard and optional audio systems deliver excellent sound quality.

  • "However useful Remote Touch is for integrating basic tasks and smartphone applications, it ultimately draws too much attention away from the road (even with the new 'back' and 'menu' buttons added for 2016)." -- Edmunds (2016)
  • "The console is designed to let the right hand rest comfortably over the mouse, but the device can be touchy and quick to jump away from the spot where you want to click on a setting selection. Getting back to the desired spot on the screen can divert driver attention." -- Consumer Guide (2014)
  • "Audio usually pours out of a 10-speaker stereo system, which has been upgraded with a new digital amp for 2013 for better power consumption. It sounds pretty good when fed compressed digital audio from HD Radio or USB-stored MP3s, but I was also given a listen to the 19-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio option with a DVD source and found it to be fantastically detailed." -- CNET (2013)

The 2017 Lexus LS has 13.9 cubic feet of cargo room, which is average for the class. A power trunk lid is optional.

The shape of the trunk limits its usefulness. If you need a large trunk, make sure the LS' space works for you when you take it on a test drive.

  • The trunk is wide, but not overly long, so luggage capacity is acceptable but not exceptional. Similarly, interior storage is OK." -- Consumer Guide (2014)
