2015 Lexus LS Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Lexus LS was new.

Interior: 8.5

Test drivers agree that the 2015 Lexus LS has a quiet, well-built cabin that’s appointed with first-rate materials. Critics say the front seats are supportive and the rear seats offer an impressive array of luxurious options, including reclining and massage features. Many of the LS’ infotainment features are controlled with a mouse-like device called Remote Touch, and many critics say it’s distracting and hard to use.

  • "Passenger room is plentiful, especially for the rear occupants, and ultra-high-quality leather and wood is employed throughout the cabin." -- Left Lane News
  • "This big luxury sedan balances style, functionality and luxury, treating occupants to comfortably contoured seats wrapped in soft leather." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The 2015 Lexus LS 460 is a stunningly quiet car on the highway." -- Edmunds
  • "All the materials are of the highest quality, and craftsmanship is top-notch, and any place the driver touches is padded or polished." -- Car and Driver (2013)

The 2015 Lexus LS seats five, though an available Executive Class Seat package in long-wheelbase models replaces the middle rear seat with a console. Standard features include leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Available features include a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front and rear seats, power-adjustable rear seats, massaging rear seats, a reclining passenger-side rear seat, a retractable rear-seat tray table and power sunshades for the rear window and rear side window.

The LS’ front seats are exceptionally supportive, according to critics. They note that the rear seats are even more comfortable than the front seats, especially in long-wheelbase models. Reviewers add that the rear seats in the LS are just as luxurious as those in its European rivals thanks to luxury options like a powered footrest and massage.

  • "If you think European manufacturers have an edge in luxury, you've never seen the Executive Class package for the Lexus LS. The right-rear seat reclines, there's vibrating and shiatsu massage, a Blu-ray entertainment system and wood-trimmed tables, making it as luxurious as anything you'd find in a European sedan." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Seat comfort, on the other hand, is simply outstanding up front, with wonderfully sculpted, multi-adjustable front buckets that can accommodate a variety of body types. Things get even better in back, especially on LS 460 L models, as the options list contains features that would be the envy of a day spa, including a massaging rear seat with near full recline and a powered ottoman." -- Edmunds
  • "The seats are gloriously supportive and highly adjustable to suit individual physiques. …" -- AutoTrader (2014)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2015 Lexus LS 460 include push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera and an infotainment system that includes a 12.3-inch display, Lexus’ Remote Touch controller, navigation, the Enform App Suite (which connects with your smartphone and allows you to control apps like Pandora Internet radio using the LS’ infotainment screen), Siri Eyes Free voice-activated iPhone integration, a 10-speaker audio system, HD Radio, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a USB port and Cache Radio, which lets you pause live radio. Available features include quad-zone automatic climate control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, active lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian detection, driver drowsiness monitoring, a 19-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system, a rear-seat Blu-ray entertainment system and a rear-seat cool box.

A few auto writers say it’s easy to learn how to use Remote Touch. However, many disagree, noting that the controller is overly sensitive and that it is difficult to select on-screen items. They also complain that Remote Touch is distracting to use while driving and less user-friendly than the infotainment controllers in rival vehicles from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

  • "However useful Remote Touch is for integrating basic tasks and smartphone applications, it ultimately draws too much attention away from the road. Cursor control with the Remote Touch controller is wobbly and imprecise, making audio and navigation selections difficult when you're on the move. Other companies use different solutions for their technology interface systems, and in particular, we prefer BMW's iDrive and Mercedes' COMAND. If you're planning to buy an LS 460, Remote Touch should be tested out thoroughly at a dealership." -- Edmunds
  • "Used on several Lexus vehicles, the Remote Touch is a mouse-like system used to select functions on the infotainment-system screen. The combination of an LCD screen, a cursor and tactile feedback similar to rolling a marble over a small indentation makes it easy to learn and use." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The console is designed to let the right hand rest comfortably over the mouse, but the device can be touchy and quick to jump away from the spot where you want to click on a setting selection. Getting back to the desired spot on the screen can divert driver attention." -- Consumer Guide (2014)

The 2015 Lexus LS 460 and LS 460 L offer 18 cubic feet of trunk space, which is good for the class. The hybrid LS 600h L has 13 cubic feet of trunk space, which is small compared with the trunk capacities of rivals. A power trunk lid is available. Some auto writers are impressed with the trunk's size, while others think it could be longer.

  • "Trunk space is generous at 18 cubic feet." -- Edmunds
  • The trunk is wide, but not overly long, so luggage capacity is acceptable but not exceptional. Similarly, interior storage is OK." -- Consumer Guide (2014)
