2014 Lexus LS Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2014 Lexus LS was new.

Interior: 8.3

Automotive journalists report that the 2014 Lexus LS' cabin is lined with elegant materials that are of top quality, including soft leather and attractive wood. They say the overall cabin design is handsome and that the large display screen in the center stack gives the interior a modern feel. According to test drivers, both the front and back seats are very comfortable and supportive and long-wheelbase models have an abundance of rear legroom.

  • "Accordingly, its cabin is painstakingly furnished with rich leather, gorgeous wood trim and various other high-grade materials." -- Edmunds
  • "Interior materials have improved noticeably in the current LS, and there's now a distinctly modern vibe thanks to elements such as the high-resolution 12.3-in display screen." -- AutoTrader
  • "Our test LS 460 drew applause for its classy, understated cabin." -- Consumer Guide
  • "All the materials are of the highest quality, and craftsmanship is top-notch, and any place the driver touches is padded or polished." -- Car and Driver (2013)

The Lexus LS 460 and long-wheelbase LS 460 L seat five, though an available Executive Class Seat package in the latter reduces seating capacity to four and replaces the middle rear seat with a console. Leather seats and power-adjustable front seats are standard. Seating options include a heated steering wheel, climate-controlled front and rear outboard seats, power-adjustable, massaging rear seats and a reclining passenger side rear seat.

Reviewers write that the LS is exceedingly comfortable no matter where you sit. They say the front seats offer great support and a wide range of adjustability and note that the rear seats are generously sized, especially in long-wheelbase variants, which they say have ample legroom and headroom.

  • "As ever, the Lexus LS is a haven for those seeking a cushy escape from the rigors of the road. The seats are gloriously supportive and highly adjustable to suit individual physiques, while the ride is creamy smooth, especially if you opt for the air suspension." -- AutoTrader
  • "If turned on, both the heated seats and heated steering wheel return to on when you restart the car, something I really appreciate - and too many don't do." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Things get better in back, especially on LS 460 L models, as the options list contains features that would be the envy of a day spa, including a massaging rear seat with near full recline and a powered ottoman." -- Edmunds
  • "Occupants are treated to comfortably contoured seats and, especially in the long-wheelbase LS 460 L and LS 600h L, more than adequate head- and legroom." -- Kelley Blue Book

Interior Features

The LS 460 comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker stereo system with HD Radio, a USB port, navigation, Lexus' Remote Touch navigation and stereo controller, a 12.3-inch display screen, a rearview camera and Bluetooth. Optional features include blind spot monitoring, a 19-speaker Mark Levinson stereo system, a rear-seat entertainment system, adaptive cruise control and four-zone automatic climate control. Also available is Siri Eyes Free Mode for users with compatible iPhones, which enables voice commands for phone calls, accessing iTunes, navigation and more.

Some critics are not particularly fond of Lexus' Remote Touch system, saying that it is distracting and adding that the selection cursor can be imprecise and a bit too sensitive. They advise testing it out before buying, noting that similar systems in BMW and Mercedes-Benz vehicles are a bit easier to use.

  • "The console is designed to let the right hand rest comfortably over the mouse, but the device can be touchy and quick to jump away from the spot where you want to click on a setting selection. Getting back to the desired spot on the screen can divert driver attention." -- Consumer Guide
  • "However useful Remote Touch is for integrating basic tasks and smartphone applications, it ultimately draws too much attention away from the road. Cursor control with the Remote Touch controller is wobbly and imprecise, making audio and navigation selections difficult when you're on the move. Other companies use different solutions for their technology interface systems, and in particular, we prefer BMW's iDrive and Mercedes' COMAND. If you're planning to buy an LS 460, Remote Touch should be tested out thoroughly at a dealership." -- Edmunds
  • "With a cleanly arranged dash, attractive interior accent lighting and a big 12.3-inch screen controlled by Lexus' easy-to-use 2nd-generation Remote Touch interface, the interior of the 2014 Lexus LS strikes a smart balance between style and functionality." -- Kelley Blue Book

The LS 460 offers 18 cubic feet of trunk space, which is good for the class. The hybrid LS 600h L has 13 cubic feet of trunk space. Some test drivers are impressed with the trunk's size, while others are underwhelmed, saying it is wide but could be longer. Reviewers add that small-item storage in the cabin is reasonable.

  • "The trunk is wide, but not overly long, so luggage capacity is acceptable but not exceptional. Similarly, interior storage is OK. Covered cup holders are placed far forward in the console, but it doesn't seem to hamper their accessibility." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Trunk space is generous at 18 cubic feet." -- Edmunds
