2013 Lexus LS Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 Lexus LS was new.

Interior: 8.4

Most reviewers love the LS’ interior, which features ample passenger space and a clean, attractive interior design. Many auto writers also praise the LS for its luxurious interior materials, which include wood trim, aluminum accents and leather upholstery. However, one test driver writes that the LS’ interior isn’t quite as nice as what you’ll find in rival cars built by Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

  • "All the materials are of the highest quality, and craftsmanship is top-notch, and any place the driver touches is padded or polished." -- Car and Driver
  • "Soft leather or leather-look vinyl now covers most interior surfaces, and it's complete stitching that lends a feeling of customization. Wood trim is now more artfully applied, and in general the look is much more modern." -- Edmunds
  • "The cabin itself is certainly a nice place to spend some time, but its construction and materials still feel a half-step below a comparable Mercedes-Benz, BMW or Audi." -- The Los Angeles Times
  • "With a cleanly-arranged dash, attractive interior accent lighting and a big 12.3-inch screen controlled by Lexus' easy-to-use second-generation Remote Touch interface, the interior of the Lexus LS strikes a smart balance between style and functionality." -- Kelley Blue Book

The Lexus LS comes with leather upholstery and power-adjustable front seats. Seating options include a heated steering wheel, climate-controlled front seats, semi-aniline leather trim, power rear seats with climate control and lumbar massage and an Executive-Class Seating package, which includes a power rear ottoman and a reclining right rear seat with massage. Test drivers write that the 2013 LS offers comfortable seats and plenty of space in both rows, and that long-wheelbase models offer even more comfort in the back seat, thanks to additional legroom and an extravagant list of options.

  • "Space is abundant front and rear-the Executive package that includes a rear-seat ottoman is again available-and the seats are as comfortable as any you'll find in this class." -- Car and Driver
  • "Front seat comfort is exemplary, and the backseat can be even better. Spacious in regular form and very spacious with the long-wheelbase L, it only gets nicer when you start sampling from the options list." -- Edmunds
  • "There's more technology in this climate system than in an entire automobile from the mid-1970s and if you opt for … the Ottoman Seating Package it comes Shiatsu massage, a Blu-ray DVD entertainment system and will do just about anything but cut your hair." -- Road and Track
  • "Occupants are treated to comfortably-contoured seats and, especially in the long-wheel base LS 460 L, more than adequate head- and leg room." -- Kelley Blue Book

Interior Features

The 2013 Lexus LS 460 comes with standard features that include a backup camera, moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, navigation, a universal garage door opener and a 10-speaker stereo with Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, satellite and HD Radio, a USB port and a 12.3-inch multimedia display. Lexus’ Remote Touch system also comes standard, which uses a mouse-like controller to access many audio, navigation and vehicle settings. Available features include a 19-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, rear-seat audio controls, a pre-collision system with dynamic cruise control, a power trunk lid, a power rear sunshade, power rear door sunshades, four-zone climate control and lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring systems.

Reviewers appreciate the 2013 LS’ long list of standard features and the superb sound quality from the optional Mark Levinson sound system. However, not all critics like the Remote Touch interface, which controls many vehicle functions. One test driver says that using Remote Touch requires too much attention while driving, and that some competing infotainment systems may be easier to use. Additionally, another reviewer writes that the graphics on the LS 12.3-inch display look dated.

  • "Amenities abound, including a 12.3-inch-wide flat screen that displays everything from GPS info to smartphone data. It's all accessed via Lexus's love-it-or-hate-it joystick control nub/mouse located on the center console." -- Car and Driver
  • "We've found it [Remote Touch] to be a competent control interface for the increasingly numerous and complicated gadgets found in flagship luxury sedans. However, it can still draw too much attention away from the road, and you may find that a tech interface as seen in the cars of some competitors will suit you better." -- Edmunds
  • "The screen's display can be split between functions, using two-thirds of it for navigation and the other third for climate or stereo. This allows a nice degree of multitasking. Unfortunately, the screen uses the same outdated graphics as other Lexus products." -- The Los Angeles Times
  • "Never underestimate the power of music to brighten one's day. The optional Mark Levinson audio system uses 450 watts of power to drive 19 speakers in a 7.1 arrangement beautifully reproducing sounds from 20 to 20,000 Hertz. For absorbing the brilliance of Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart" we've found few better solutions." -- Kelley Blue Book

The 2013 LS offers 18 cubic feet of trunk space, which is more than what most cars in the class offer. However, hybrid models have less space than most super luxury cars, with 13 cubic feet of room for cargo.

  • "Trunk space is a generous 18 cubic feet." -- Edmunds
