2015 Lexus IS Overview

Is the 2015 Lexus IS a Good Used Car?

The IS is a good choice in the luxury small car class. It has balanced performance and a comfortable, high-end interior. The IS' reliability ratings are excellent as well.

Used 2015 Lexus IS Performance and Interior

The base IS 250 has a 2.5-liter V6 engine, while IS 350 trims have a 3.5-liter V6. Both engines come paired with an automatic transmission. The base engine has adequate power, while the larger V6 delivers a serious punch. The IS 250 gets up to 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, which is below average for the class. The IS nicely balances ride comfort with agility. Bumps in the road are easily soaked up, but the suspension isn't so soft that the IS feels sloppy around corners. Still, many rivals are more athletic. The IS comes standard with rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is available.

The IS has a sleek and high-end interior swathed in luxurious materials. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and the rear seats have comparable head- and legroom to what you'll find in rivals. Sedan models seat five, while convertible models seat four. The outboard rear seats each have a full set of LATCH connectors, while the middle rear seat in sedan models has an additional upper tether anchor.

Even the base IS 250 comes well-equipped, with standard features like a moonroof, Bluetooth, HD Radio, satellite radio, and an infotainment system. Smartphone integration, a Mark Levinson surround sound system, and navigation are available. The most commonly used controls around the cabin are straightforward, including the touch-sensitive sliders that control some climate settings. The available navigation system includes Lexus' Remote Touch controller, which is less user-friendly. The Remote Touch controller is mounted on the center console and is operated like a computer mouse. While that may sound easy enough, it’s distracting in practice – especially while the car is moving.

Used 2015 Lexus IS Prices

The base Lexus IS 250 with rear-wheel drive costs around $27,000. Higher trims or all-wheel drive will increase that price. Total costs vary with each vehicle’s condition, mileage, and location.

Should I Consider Another Used IS?

The IS sedan was last fully redesigned for 2014. The only big difference between the 2014 and 2015 IS models is the addition of smartphone integration for the 2015 model year. Lexus updated the powertrains with new engines for the 2016 model year. Otherwise, there have been few major changes through 2017.

Lexus carried the 2015 IS convertible unchanged from the previous generation, which launched in the 2010 model year. There are few significant differences between the 2015 model and previous model years. Production on the IS convertible ceased following the 2015 model year.

Which Used Lexus IS Is Right for Me?

There are few differences in features between the IS 250 and IS 350, but they do have different powertrains. Since the IS 250's engine has adequate power, we recommend sticking with the base model to save some money.

Some used IS models may be covered by a certified pre-owned program. For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Lexus extends its original new-car warranty to cover six years or unlimited mileage. Lexus puts its CPO vehicles through a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Lexus warranty page carefully.

2015 Lexus IS and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Lexus IS or 2015 BMW 3 Series?

Even though the BMW 3 Series earns slightly lower safety and reliability scores than the IS, we recommend you buy the Bimmer. The 3 Series has a luxurious cabin and one of the roomiest back seats in the class. The ride is comfortable and the engines are fuel-efficient, making the 3 Series an excellent daily driver. The sedan handles corners with agility and all of its engines are punchy – great for when you want to have some fun on the road.

Which Is Better: 2015 Lexus IS or 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

If elegant luxury matters more to you than zero to 60 mph times, buy the Mercedes-Benz C-Class rather than the IS. The C-Class has the most luxurious cabin in the class, with excellent material quality and chic styling. The C-Class' interior is very spacious for all occupants. Loads of features come standard – including some that aren't even available in the IS, like a Wi-Fi hot spot and driver drowsiness monitoring. On the performance front, the C-Class has a cushioned, composed ride and ample power from its engines. The C-Class is among the few cars in the class that match the IS' reliability rating.
