2015 Lexus GS Hybrid Overview

Is the 2015 Lexus GS Hybrid a Good Used Car?

The 2015 Lexus GS Hybrid is one of the most appealing used luxury midsize sedans on the market, even if a hybrid powertrain isn't your first priority. It pulls ahead of its competition, delivering better fuel economy estimates than most rivals – including those with fuel-conserving technology. In addition, the GS Hybrid boasts a nicely appointed, elegant cabin. Its well-balanced performance provides both comfort and agility.

Used 2015 Lexus GS Hybrid Performance and Interior

The front-wheel-drive Lexus GS Hybrid – also known as the GS 450h – comes standard with a V6 engine mated to an electric motor that together produce 338 horsepower. A continuously variable automatic transmission is standard. With this powertrain, the Lexus GS Hybrid puts down plenty of smooth power while consuming little fuel – it gets an EPA-estimated 29 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. These are some of the highest estimates in the class, even when compared with the estimates of rival midsize hybrid sedans. The base GS Hybrid delivers a supple ride over road imperfections, thanks in part to its standard adaptive suspension. Its handling is fairly composed around winding roads, but for better corner-carving ability, go with the available GS 450h F Sport model, which includes a firmer suspension and a drive mode selector.

Quiet, upscale, and well-equipped describe the 2015 GS Hybrid's cabin, which features attractive styling and high-end materials. Leather upholstery is standard, which isn't true for many rivals. The GS Hybrid has five seats. The front seats are supportive, and you will enjoy ample head- and legroom no matter where you're seated. The 2015 GS 450h’s LATCH child-seat system includes two lower anchors on the rear outboard seats and an upper tether anchor on all three back seats.

Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, an infotainment system, USB and auxiliary ports, and Bluetooth. The infotainment system uses Lexus' Remote Touch controller. The Remote Touch controller works like a computer mouse, but its sensitivity makes it difficult for drivers to operate. Available features include a 17-speaker Mark Levinson surround sound audio system and an upgraded infotainment system with navigation, a 12.3-inch screen, and the Lexus Enform App Suite, which links your smartphone to internet-connected apps.

How Safe Is the GS Hybrid?

The majority of cars in the class performed well in crash tests, and the 2015 Lexus GS Hybrid is among a handful that have a perfect safety score. However, the GS Hybrid was only evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, while many rivals received additional crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Standard safety equipment includes a rearview camera and Lexus’ Enform Safety system, which features collision and emergency assistance features. A number of advanced safety features are available, including blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, parking sensors, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning.

Should I Consider Another Used GS Hybrid?

The Lexus GS Hybrid's third generation began with the 2013 model year and continues through 2017. For 2015, Lexus added the high-performance 450h F Sport trim and upgraded the GS Hybrid’s infotainment display. If these features are less important to you, check out the 2013 and 2014 GS Hybrid models, which will probably cost less.

Which Used Lexus GS Hybrid Is Right for Me?

The rear-wheel-drive Lexus GS Hybrid has two trims available: the GS 450h and the performance-oriented GS 450h F Sport. The base GS 450h should satisfy most shoppers, as it comes well-equipped with standard features like leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, push-button start, Siri Eyes Free technology, Bluetooth, and hands-free text messaging. In addition, it comes with more standard active safety features than most rivals.

If you want high performance in addition to fuel efficiency, consider the GS 450h F Sport. It adds a sport-tuned suspension, sport front seats, sleeker front-end styling, and a rear steering system.

Although the GS Hybrid has a perfect predicted reliability score, a certified pre-owned model may provide further peace of mind. For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Lexus extends its original new-car warranty to cover six years or unlimited mileage. Lexus puts its CPO vehicles through a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Lexus warranty page carefully.

2015 Lexus GS Hybrid and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Lexus GS Hybrid or 2015 Lexus ES Hybrid?

The ES Hybrid and GS Hybrid are both upscale midsize sedans made by Lexus, so they share many traits. The GS Hybrid, however, is the more enjoyable car to drive, as the ES Hybrid offers dull handling and an underpowered engine. Still, if you're focused on fuel efficiency, the ES 300h pulls ahead, besting the GS 450h's estimates by 11 mpg in the city and 5 mpg on the highway.

Which Is Better: 2015 Lexus GS Hybrid or 2015 Infiniti Q70 Hybrid?

The Infiniti Q70 Hybrid, like the GS Hybrid, provides agile handling, roomy back seats, and good fuel economy estimates (29 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway). However, the Q70's harsh ride makes it less practical for daily commuting. Additionally, the GS Hybrid's long list of standard features makes it the better value when compared with the Q70's scant equipment list.

Which Is Better: 2015 Lexus GS Hybrid or 2015 Audi A6?

The Audi A6 proves you don't need a hybrid powertrain to get good fuel economy estimates. With its base turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Audi has good power and gets up to 25 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway – pretty close to the GS Hybrid's fuel numbers. Additionally, the A6 has a more upscale interior, refined handling, and lots of high-tech features.
