2012 Lexus ES Overview

Test drivers were satisfied with the acceleration provided by the 2012 ES’ V6 engine, and they said most upscale midsize car buyers should find it plenty powerful. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. The 2012 Lexus ES gets an EPA-estimated 19/28 mpg city/highway, which is on par with that of its rivals. Most reviewers said that the Lexus ES rides comfortably over very bumpy roads. However, they didn’t think it corners as sharply as many cars in the class, and they said that its steering system doesn’t offer much feedback. Still, the ES’ smooth, powerful brakes impressed test drivers.

Reviewers said the 2012 Lexus ES has a beautiful, well-built interior with luxurious details like soft-touch surfaces, standard leather seats and real maple or walnut wood trim. Most reviewers agreed that legroom is generous in the front and back seats, though they cautioned that headroom is limited for tall adults in the front and back due to the moonroof housing. At 14.8 cubic feet, the Lexus ES’ trunk is one of the largest in the class. Standard features in the 2012 Lexus ES include a moonroof, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a power-tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, proximity key, automatic climate control, an eight-speaker sound system, Bluetooth, a USB/iPod input and satellite radio. Available features include heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, navigation, a rearview camera, a 14-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system and a panoramic glass roof.

Other Cars to Consider

Reviewers agreed that the 2012 Acura TL has an attractive interior with top-notch fit and finish. They added that the TL has impressive handling and cornering abilities, especially when equipped with all-wheel drive.

Reviewers agreed that the 2012 Buick Regal has a comfortable ride and composed handling. If you want to up the performance ante, test drivers said the performance-oriented GS model handles very nimbly for a front-wheel drive car.
