2009 Lexus ES Review

The 2009 Lexus ES 350 is one of the most upscale and luxurious entries in the class.

Pros & Cons

  • High-quality, luxurious cabin
  • Comfortable seats
  • Smooth, refined engine
  • Too isolated and soft for some
  • Low safety ratings

2009 Lexus ES Overview

When it was new, critics admired the 2009 Lexus ES 350 for its sumptuous interior, quiet cabin and smooth-riding suspension that isolates occupants from imperfect roads. Bear in mind that the ES is no sport sedan, nor is it trying to be. The ES 350 was designed to be a comfortable luxury car, so those looking for performance may want to check out more sport-oriented cars like the 2009 Acura TL and 2009 BMW 3-Series. It also has a safety score that is among the lowest in the class.

Powering the front-wheel drive ES is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 272 horsepower. While is not a performance vehicle, most testers liked the smooth engine and solid acceleration. The ES averages 19/27 mpg city/highway, which is about average for the class.

The 2009 ES 350’s cabin garnered high praise from critics for its use of premium materials, comfortable, spacious seats in both the front and rear and its quiet, isolated cabin. They also liked its easy-to-use electronics. In its trunk, the ES 350 can carry up to 14.7 cubic feet of cargo, which is a competitive size. The ES comes standard with leather seats with 10-way front power adjustment, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, a power sunroof and an eight-speaker stereo with auxiliary input. Available features include a 14-speaker Mark Levinson stereo, navigation, a panoramic sunroof, Bluetooth and a power rear sunshade. Available safety features include a backup camera, parking sensors and adaptive cruise control.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the Lexus ES 350, you may also like the 2009 Cadillac CTS. The CTS has solid safety scores and was noted by reviewers as having a comfortable, yet sporty, ride and a high-quality interior.

The 2009 Lincoln MKZ was highly regarded by critics as a comfortable and luxurious sedan, which is especially good for families thanks to its spacious cabin and large trunk. Like the ES 350, it isn’t the most agile car on the market, but it is available with all-wheel drive, which makes it more compelling for those who live in snowy regions or simply want more traction.
