2014 Lexus ES Hybrid Overview

Is the 2014 Lexus ES Hybrid a Good Used Car?

The Lexus ES Hybrid is a great pick if you’re shopping for a used luxury midsize sedan. The ES Hybrid, also referred to as the ES 300h, rewards passengers with its smooth ride quality, spacious cabin, and cozy seats. It also rewards at the gas pump, thanks to a high fuel economy rating. Factor in great safety scores and lower-than-average ownership costs, and it’s easy to say this sedan’s an extremely good used car.

Used 2014 Lexus ES Hybrid Performance and Interior

The 2014 Lexus ES 300h has a four-cylinder engine and electric motor, which produce a combined 200 horsepower. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive are standard. The ES 300h’s hybrid system yields a superb 40 mpg in the city and 39 on the highway. It provides swift acceleration and sufficient passing power, even at higher speeds.

This refined powertrain is matched with well-mannered handling. The Lexus ES has a soft and pleasant ride, even on bumpy pavement, and the sedan feels secure when rounding corners. The steering is responsive as well, and the brakes provide confident stopping power and a natural pedal feel, which isn’t always common among hybrid cars.

The five-seat Lexus ES impresses with its elegant, high-end interior. The front seats are comfortable and offer good support on longer road trips. The rear seats are cozy as well, and they provide a vast 40 inches of legroom. Even for taller adults, there’s ample space to stretch out in the back. There are two full sets of LATCH connectors for securing child car seats. The ES Hybrid offers a rather small 12.1 cubic feet of trunk space, due to the location of its battery pack.

The Lexus ES 300h is available with two different infotainment systems. One features a 7-inch display that sits high on the dashboard, controlled using a console-mounted rotary dial. Adjusting the audio, climate, or Bluetooth settings is easy and only takes a simple twist of the knob. Some models instead feature the navigation-equipped Remote Touch system, which isn’t as user-friendly. It replaces the dial with a mouselike controller that guides an on-screen cursor. The system can be distracting to use while driving.

Should I Consider Another Used Lexus ES?

The Lexus ES Hybrid debuted for 2013 as an all-new model and received no major updates for 2014, aside from the addition of Siri Eyes Free connectivity for iPhones. Updates for 2015 were minimal as well. As a result, you can find used 2013 models for sale at lower prices, and you won’t miss out on any must-have features.

You may also want to consider the non-hybrid 2014 Lexus ES 350. This model shares the same tech features as the ES 300h, but it instead comes equipped with a 268-horsepower V6. As a result, the ES 350 delivers quicker acceleration. That said, it trails the ES 300h in fuel efficiency. While the ES 350 returns 21/30 mpg city/highway, the ES 300h achieves 40/39 mpg city/highway.

2014 Lexus ES Hybrid and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Lexus ES Hybrid or 2014 Lexus GS Hybrid?

The Lexus GS Hybrid and ES Hybrid both have great reliability ratings, notable crash test scores, numerous advanced safety features, and posh interiors. The core difference between these midsize luxury cars is how each drives. The GS boasts considerably more power, quicker acceleration, and sharper handling than the ES. However, it delivers much lower fuel economy (29/34 mpg city/highway versus 40/39 mpg) and offers less rear-seat room. If you can do without sports-car-like performance, the comfier and more affordable ES Hybrid is the better buy.

Which Is Better: 2014 Lexus ES Hybrid or 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid?

The 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid and ES Hybrid are built on the same platform. Both share the same hybrid powertrain and excellent fuel economy ratings (40/39 mpg city/highway). Both also offer a comfortable ride, a roomy interior, and superb reliability and safety scores. The Avalon is the sweeter deal, however. Not only are used Avalon models often much less expensive, but there’s little difference in cabin quality between both models. Also, the Avalon’s touchscreen is far easier to use.

Which Is Better: 2014 Lexus ES Hybrid or 2014 Toyota Camry Hybrid?

The Toyota Camry Hybrid also shares its powertrain with the ES Hybrid. Both sedans offer a smooth ride, roomy interiors, near-identical fuel economy ratings, and excellent reliability scores. Both are great used car options, though each has its benefits. The Lexus has nicer interior materials and more advanced safety features. However, the Camry has a simpler infotainment system and a price that’s typically thousands of dollars less than the ES Hybrid’s.
