2014 Lexus CT Hybrid Overview

Is the 2014 Lexus CT Hybrid a Good Used Car?

If you want an upscale interior and great fuel economy ratings, the Lexus CT Hybrid will suit your needs. It also gets top safety scores, and it’s one of the more reliable vehicles on the road. This is a good used car, but it's not perfect. For driving dynamics and engine power, there are better options.

A four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that together generate 134 horsepower power the 2014 Lexus CT200h. Acceleration is sluggish, and most competitors have stronger engines. According to the EPA, the CT Hybrid gets up to 43 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway, which is outstanding for the upscale small car class. The CT Hybrid is relatively nimble for a hybrid, but competing luxury small cars are more fun to drive. You get sharper driver dynamics with the CT Hybrid F Sport, thanks to its sport-tuned suspension, but the ride is harsh. The CT Hybrid's brake pedal, like most hybrid brake pedals, feels mushy and takes some getting used to.

The Lexus CT Hybrid seats five, and the interior has first-class materials. The front seats are supportive, but the back seats are cramped. There’s 14.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seats, which is good for the class. For a hatchback, however, that capacity is a bit low.

Standard equipment includes a moonroof, push-button start, and Bluetooth phone and audio streaming. Available features include leather upholstery and navigation. The CT200h is also available with Lexus’ infotainment system with Remote Touch interface, which operates similarly to a computer mouse. The infotainment display is large and easy to see, but the Remote Touch controller is overly sensitive, which makes it hard to select the right menu items.

2014 Lexus CT Hybrid and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Lexus CT Hybrid or Toyota Prius?

If you prioritize fuel economy over luxury accommodations, the 2014 Toyota Prius may be a better option than the CT Hybrid. This affordable small car gets better gas mileage – 49 mpg in the city and 46 mpg on the highway – and its starting price is about $5,400 less than the CT Hybrid's. The Prius also has more space than the CT Hybrid, with plenty of head- and legroom in the rear seats and 7.3 cubic feet of additional cargo space.

Which Is Better: 2014 Lexus CT Hybrid or 2014 Acura ILX?

The 2014 Acura ILX Hybrid is the only other upscale small hybrid. Both the ILX Hybrid and CT Hybrid have a similar number of features, though the ILX has a standard rearview camera. Both offer comfortable, but not athletic, rides. Finally, neither car feels energetic. However, the ILX finishes far behind the CT Hybrid in one key area: fuel economy. It gets just 38 mpg in both city and highway driving. However, it’s several thousand dollars less than the CT Hybrid. If price is your top concern, go with the ILX. Otherwise, take the CT Hybrid.

Which Is Better: 2014 Lexus CT Hybrid or 2014 BMW i3?

The 2014 BMW i3 is an all-electric car, and it has a lot going for it. Its powertrain makes brisk acceleration for both city and highway driving. It earns 137 mpg-e in the city and 111 mpg-e on the highway, and with a fully charged battery, it has an 81-mile range. The i3's starting price is a few thousand dollars more than the CT Hybrid's, but it comes with more features, including an infotainment system, navigation, and rear parking sensors. Although the i3 only has four seats, they're spacious. Still, the CT Hybrid has a nicer interior, and it won't cause “range anxiety.” These two facts tip the scale in favor of the CT Hybrid.
