Reliability

Winner: Lexus

With improvements in manufacturing techniques, all cars have become a lot more reliable in recent years. As reliability has increased, the differences between the best and worst cars has narrowed.

In terms of reliability, Lexus is just a nose ahead of Mercedes-Benz, with a 4.4 average rating (out of 5) in J.D. Power’s New Car Dependability Study. Two models achieve perfect scores: the Lexus GS and LS (pictured above) luxury sedans; the entry-level IS rates just average.

With quite a few more models, Mercedes-Benz rates 4.1 on average, with little deviation.
