2015 Land Rover Range Rover Overview

Is the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover a Good Used SUV?

With such a high price and a low reliability score, we don’t recommend the 2015 Range Rover to anyone other than an off-road aficionado or someone not worried about the potential for reliability issues and high ownership costs.

Used 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Performance and Interior

The standard supercharged V6 engine produces 340 horsepower and gives the Range Rover adequate acceleration. However, the available 510-horsepower supercharged V8 does a better job of handling the SUV’s immense weight. Both engines come with an eight-speed automatic. The base power plant returns 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, which is good for a luxury large SUV.

Take it off road, and the four-wheel-drive Range Rover shines. The standard Terrain Response system offers several modes to handle whatever terrains you encounter. On-road performance is no worse; the Range Rover has secure handling, strong brakes, and a supple ride, thanks to its standard air suspension. With its ample torque, the Range Rover can tow up to about 7,700 pounds.

The Range Rover seats five in a posh cabin teeming with soft-touch materials. Leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel are standard. Heated rear seats and massaging and cooled front seats are available. Unlike many of its rivals, the Range Rover does not offer third-row seating.

Up front, the Range Rover has supportive seats and great visibility. Rear-seat passengers have sufficient space with the standard wheelbase, but the long-wheelbase variant provides exceptional legroom. There are two complete sets of LATCH car-seat connectors in the rear outboard seats and a tether-only connection in the middle seat. With either wheelbase, the Range Rover’s cargo hold is smaller than average for a luxury large SUV.

Standard features include tri-zone automatic climate control, an 8-inch touch-screen navigation system, and a 13-speaker Meridian audio system. Sorting through the infotainment system’s complicated menus can be frustrating. On the upside, all of the Range Rover’s Meridian audio systems deliver excellent sound quality, from the standard setup to the available 19- and 29-speaker systems. Other notable upgrades include a rear-seat entertainment system and a sliding panoramic roof.

How Safe Is the Range Rover?

Neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has crash tested the 2015 Range Rover. This is the case for many luxury SUVs.

A rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers come standard. Available driver assistance features include blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, a surround-view parking camera, park assist, and adaptive cruise control with automatic emergency braking.

Should I Consider Another Used Range Rover?

The 2015 Range Rover is part of the SUV’s fourth generation, which began with the 2013 model year and includes the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover. The 2015 model offers newly available driver assistance features, like traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, and park assist. If you can do without these features, go for a 2013 or 2014 model instead. You’ll get a similar vehicle at a lower price.

Which Used Land Rover Range Rover Is Right for Me?

The 2015 Land Rover Range Rover comes in five trims: Range Rover (base), HSE, Supercharged, Autobiography, and Autobiography Black. Among them, we recommend the Supercharged trim or higher. They all feature the powerful supercharged V8 engine and Terrain Response 2, which detects the type of terrain you're on and changes to the optimal off-road mode automatically. The Autobiography and Autobiography Black trims add style enhancements and spiffy interior upgrades like heated rear seats, massaging front seats, and a leather headliner.

For added peace of mind, you might want to consider a certified pre-owned model. Land Rover extends its original new-car warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles for certified pre-owned vehicles. Every CPO Land Rover must pass a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Land Rover warranty page carefully.

2015 Land Rover Range Rover and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Land Rover Range Rover or 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class?

Although the Range Rover is a superior off-roader, the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is better in just about every other way. The GL-Class has a better engine lineup, with great acceleration in every model. Unlike the Range Rover, it comes with a third row of seats, with room for up to seven. The GL-Class has a longer list of standard features, including a sunroof, a driver drowsiness monitor, and forward collision warning. However, both luxury SUVs have a complex infotainment system. The GL-Class has about 22 extra cubic feet of cargo space over the Range Rover.

Which Is Better: 2015 Land Rover Range Rover or 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport?

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a great choice for those who want many of the same benefits as the larger Rover but in a smaller package. The Range Rover Sport excels at off-roading, has an exquisite interior, and offers a similar lineup of engines as the Range Rover. On the downside, both share a subpar predicted reliability rating and a frustrating infotainment system. Although it offers a third row of seats, the Range Rover Sport has less second-row legroom and a smaller cargo hold than its stablemate, which makes it less appealing to some shoppers.
