Which Model Year of the Land Rover Range Rover Is Best?

The 2015 Range Rover is part of a generation that started with the 2013 model. There have been many changes throughout the years, so choosing the right used Range Rover requires paying careful attention to the changes for each model year.

For the 2014 model year, Land Rover introduced a new standard V6 engine, a long-wheelbase body style, and stop-start technology with its available supercharged V8 engine. For 2015, the Range Rover gained available driver assistance features like traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, and park assist. The SUV received a turbodiesel V6 engine and InControl Remote smartphone integration for 2016, as well as a 10-inch touch screen and the SVAutobiography Dynamic trim for the 2017 model year. 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Recalls

As of this writing, there are six recalls for the 2015 Range Rover. They cover a second-row seat back that may not latch properly, doors that may unexpectedly unlatch when closed, and a front passenger air bag that may be disabled. Three other recalls involve wheel lug nuts that may crack and cause the wheel to detach, an engine that may seize and increase the risk of a crash, and incorrect routing of the brake vacuum hose that may cause a loss of braking assistance. Make sure a Land Rover dealer has addressed these recalls before purchasing a 2015 Range Rover.

It comes with the base trim's features – including leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a rearview camera – while adding the powerful supercharged V8 engine. It also comes with a Terrain Response 2 off-roading system that allows you to tailor your ride to the specific terrain you are driving on.

Certified Pre-Owned Land Rover Range Rover Warranty

Land Rover offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles five years old or less and with fewer than 60,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale’s date. Land Rover extends its original new-car warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles for certified pre-owned vehicles. Every CPO Land Rover must pass a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Land Rover warranty page carefully.

According to our analysis, Land Rover has one of the best CPO programs on the market. It offers better coverage than what you'll get from Acura, BMW, and Jeep. However, it's not as good overall as the programs offered by Lexus, Volvo, and Porsche.

2015 Land Rover Range Rover Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2015 Land Rover Range Rover or 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL?

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL is a better luxury large SUV than the Range Rover on nearly every front. This three-row SUV features a more potent engine lineup, and unlike the Range Rover, the GL’s base engine doesn't struggle to provide enough power. Inside the GL, you'll find roughly 22 more cubic feet of cargo space and a longer list of standard features, which includes forward collision warning and a sunroof. The only real reason to opt for the Range Rover over the GL is if you're looking for a superior off-roader.

Which Is Better: 2015 Land Rover Range Rover or 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport?

The 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a smaller version of the Range Rover. Both vehicles have great off-road prowess, a similar engine lineup, and first-rate interior materials. These Land Rovers also have low predicted reliability ratings and a confusing infotainment system. On the one hand, the Sport costs less to buy on average, and it comes with seating for up to seven people (the larger Range Rover only has seating for five). On the other hand, the Range Rover has a larger cargo capacity and more rear legroom than its stablemate.

2015 Range Rover Performance

How Does the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Drive?

A 340-horsepower supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine comes standard in the Range Rover Sport. A supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that makes 510 horsepower is available. While the V6 engine gets the job done, the V8 does a better job of shouldering the Rover's immense weight. Both power plants come with a responsive eight-speed automatic transmission.

This SUV delivers a smooth ride on paved roads, and it demonstrates good handling composure around turns. However, its steering feels heavy at high speeds.

The Range Rover truly shines when it goes off the beaten path. This SUV comes standard with full-time four-wheel drive, and it allows drivers to choose between mud and ruts, snow, and sand driving modes. A Terrain Response 2 system is also available, which automatically selects the optimal driving mode for you.

Does the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Get Good Gas Mileage?

The 2015 Range Rover delivers up to 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. These are solid figures for a luxury large SUV.

2015 Land Rover Range Rover Towing Capacity

The 2015 Range Rover can tow up to 7,716 pounds when properly equipped.

How Many Child Car Seats Fit in the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover?

There are two sets of LATCH connectors for installing child car seats on the rear outboard seats. There is also a tether-only connection on the rear middle seat.

2015 Land Rover Range Rover Features

The 2015 Range Rover's infotainment system is cumbersome to use. It’s slow to respond to inputs, and several steps are required to execute even the most basic functions. The standard system features an 8-inch touch screen, a 13-speaker Meridian audio system, navigation, a USB port, and Bluetooth. Available features include 19- or 29-speaker Meridian audio systems and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.
