2011 Land Rover Range Rover Overview

When it was new, reviewers loved the 2011 Range Rover’s combination of off-road capability and luxury. They also found that the available supercharged V8 engine could make it one of the quicker vehicles in the segment.

The base 2011 Range Rover HSE comes standard with full-time four-wheel drive and a 375-horsepower V8, while the Supercharged trim puts out 510 horsepower. Reviewers said the base engine is more than adequate for briskly moving the five-seat SUV, but noted the supercharged engine delivers sports car-like acceleration. Fuel economy with either engine is 12/18 mpg city/highway, which is low for the class. Land Rover’s terrain response system is standard, which allows the driver to adjust the suspension and powertrain to different types of terrain. Maximum cargo capacity with the rear seats folded is 74.2 cubic feet.

When it was new, reviewers loved the leather- and wood-trimmed interior, which offers high-quality fit and finish and good outward visibility. Standard equipment includes push-button start, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, navigation, Bluetooth, a rearview camera and parking sensors. Optional equipment included adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera system, an upgraded stereo, a rear-seat entertainment system and adaptive headlights. The Range Rover has evolved slowly over the years, so you can probably save money by shopping for an older model.

Other Cars to Consider

If you’re looking for something better-suited as a family vehicle, consider the 2011 Lexus LX. While it doesn’t have the adjustable off-road suspension system or as much luxury flair, it can seat up to eight, and is still a decent off-road performer. Additionally, it was named our 2011 Best Luxury large SUV for Families.

Another model to consider is the 2011 Mercedes-Benz GL. The GL offers plenty of luxury for buyers, but in a more on-road-oriented vehicle. The GL can seat up to seven and comes standard with a diesel engine that gets good fuel economy for the class.
