2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Overview

Is the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport a Good Used SUV?

The Range Rover Sport is a good used luxury midsize SUV if you need a comfortable off-roader. It can ford mild streams and climb rocky inclines, and it has two powerful V8 engines and good on-road handling for a vehicle of its size. Its interior is also first rate. Before buying, however, be aware that its reliability rating is one of the worst in the class.

Used 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Performance and Interior

The 2013 Range Rover Sport has a standard 375-horsepower V8 engine. A supercharged V8 that makes 510 horsepower is available. A six-speed automatic transmission with a manual mode is standard. The Range Rover Sport rides smoothly on the highway and handles curves well for its size. For off-roading, the Range Rover Sport has an 8.9-inch ground clearance and a maximum water wading depth of 27.56 inches. The Land Rover also has Terrain Response, which allows the driver to select among the following modes: gravel, grass, snow, rocks, and tarmac.

The Range Rover Sport’s EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings range from 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway for the standard naturally aspirated V8 engine to 12/17 mpg city/highway for the supercharged V8. Both are considered low for the luxury midsize SUV class.

The 2013 Range Rover Sport comes standard with eight-way power-adjustable leather seats and seating for five. Heated first- and second-row seats and a heated steering wheel are standard above the base trim. The front and rear seats have ample padding and offer plenty of legroom, but the Range Rover Sport’s high seating position can affect headroom. There are two complete sets of LATCH child-seat systems on the second-row outboard seats.

Among the Range Rover Sport’s standard features are push-button start, a power liftgate, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, Bluetooth, one USB port, and navigation. Available features include a center console with a built-in cooler, an upgraded 17-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a rear-seat entertainment system, and HD Radio.

Is the 2013 Range Rover Sport the Best Model Year to Buy?

The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is the final model of a generation that launched with the 2008 model year. If you are looking to save money, one of the earlier models may suffice; the 2013 and 2012 Range Rover Sport are basically identical, except for the addition of a new trim with a high-horsepower engine and another trim with an upgraded exterior and stereo system. The 2011 model lacks a standard power tailgate.

Which Used Land Rover Range Rover Sport Is Right for Me?

The 2013 Range Rover Sport is available in six trims: HSE, HSE with Lux, HSE GT Limited Edition, Supercharged, Supercharged Limited Edition, and Autobiography. The base Rover HSE is equipped with features like keyless start, leather seats, dual zone climate control, navigation, and front-row power seats. The HSE with Lux trim adds a heated steering wheel and heated front and rear seats. The HSE GT Limited Edition has a stereo system with satellite radio and HD Radio, as well as premium synthetic seats. The Supercharged model mostly mirrors the HSE trim, but it adds the 510-horsepower, supercharged V8 engine. The Autobiography resembles the HSE with Lux trim, but it has the supercharged engine. The Supercharged Limited Edition adds a special rear tailgate sports logo, distinctive front and rear brake calipers, and an embroidered red sport logo on the floor mats. The base HSE should meet most of your needs for a comfortable, luxurious off-road vehicle.

Because of its below-average reliability, you might want to consider a certified pre-owned Range Rover Sport. Land Rover extends its original new-car warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles for certified pre-owned vehicles. Every CPO Land Rover must pass a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Land Rover warranty page carefully. The Range Rover Sport’s original sale date determines whether or not it is eligible for the CPO program.

2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport or 2013 Porsche Cayenne?

The 2013 Porsche Cayenne has a much higher ownership cost than the Range Rover Sport, but it’s the better choice. The Cayenne has nimble on-road handling and a wide array of available engines. Its interior is well-constructed with lots of soft-touch materials, and it has perfect reliability. Just note: while the Cayenne can go off road, it can’t match the Range Rover Sport’s capabilities.

Which Is Better: 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport or 2013 Land Rover LR4?

The 2013 Land Rover LR4 is a corporate sibling of the Range Rover Sport. Both are great off road, but they also sit toward the bottom of our rankings. The Range Rover Sport is the better choice, despite its higher ownership cost. It has better on-road handling, a more attractive interior, and slightly better reliability.
