2019 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Interior Review

Interior: 7.5

The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque boasts excellent craftsmanship and elegant styling. Available as a four-door SUV or a two-door convertible, this SUV's accommodations are ideal for a pair of travelers. The front seats are enjoyable for a full day of exploring, and the infotainment system and supplementary controls are reasonably straightforward. The Evoque’s cargo space is average for the class in the standard Evoque, and it’s well below average in the convertible version.

  • "[T]he Evoque has several characteristics that set it apart from the competition. Perhaps the most notable is its interior, which features excellent build quality, fine materials and pleasing aesthetics. Even in base trim, the Evoque's interior is stunning, with soft-touch materials, brushed aluminum trim and an automatic gear selector that rises out of the center console." -- Autotrader
  • "Although the 2018 Range Rover Evoque is one of Land Rover's most affordable models, it features a cabin packed with all the elegant aesthetics, upscale materials and fine detailing you expect in the brand's luxury SUVs." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "I tested the HSE version, which features extras such as black visual accents, auto-leveling headlights, a more robust navigation system and Oxford leather seats. Cabin materials are up to par for a vehicle wearing the Range Rover moniker as part of its long name, and it has a luxurious cabin." -- Cars.com  (2017)

The Evoque comes as a four-door SUV with five seats, but there is also a two-door convertible version with four seats. Thanks to the 12-way power adjustments and ample space, the front seats are comfortable for most folks. Accommodations in the back seat are quite limited, however, and it's particularly difficult to access this zone in the Evoque Convertible. Grained leather upholstery and a leather steering wheel are standard. Seating upgrades include a full Oxford leather interior, heated front and rear seats, and 14-way power-adjustable front seats with a massage feature.

The Evoque has two full sets of LATCH anchors on the outboard seats. The four-door Evoque comes with an additional tether anchor for its middle seat.

  • "Surprisingly, though, the cabin suffers from more road noise than we'd expect in a luxury-oriented vehicle, especially on the highway. In most small SUVs, this may be acceptable, but at the $43,000 mark, we'd hope for more sound insulation." -- Autotrader
  • The front seats are comfortable and heated, although the back seats are on the snug side." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • There's a good amount of space up front in all dimensions to suit occupants of various sizes. Rear headroom is surprisingly good despite the sloping roofline, and rear kneeroom is livable for average-size passengers but won't be optimal for those trips measured in hours." -- Edmunds (2018)

Interior Features

The Evoque comes with the choice of the base InControl Touch infotainment system or the upgraded Touch Pro. The Touch Pro system has refreshed graphics and an updated interface for 2019. Land Rover includes its InControl App suite with both systems. This provides limited smartphone integration, though the suite isn't as feature-rich as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto – both of which are absent from the Evoque's options list. A straightforward array of buttons and knobs sits beneath the touch-screen display. For some drivers, it's a bit of a stretch to reach these.

In addition to the InControl Touch interface, the base infotainment system comes with an 8-inch touch screen, a USB port, Bluetooth, and navigation. Dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, emergency brake assist, and trailer stability assist are also standard.

Options include the upgraded InControl Touch Pro system, a 10-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Navigation Pro, HD Radio, satellite radio, an 11- and 17-speaker Meridian surround-sound system. You can also equip the Evoque with proximity key entry, a fixed panoramic sunroof with an integrated power-operated blind, and illuminated tread plates.

For safety upgrades, the Evoque offers automatic high beams, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, active park assist (include parallel and perpendicular park modes), a surround-view camera system, and adaptive headlights.

  • "The interior of the 2019 Range Rover Evoque is a visual masterpiece and extremely comfortable." -- Autotrader
  • "The climate features, from the heated seats and heated steering wheel to the air conditioning, all function well and provide nice temperature modulation. The controls are clearly laid out with dual dials for temperature adjustment and buttons for vent control and defrost functions." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • " … the Meridian sound system is universally loved. We also like its dial shifter, which rises dramatically from the console when you start the engine. " -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)

The four-door Evoque’s cargo space is about average for the class, with 20.3 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 51 cubes after you fold those seats down. With the exception of the base SE, all nonconvertible models come with a hands-free liftgate. The convertible's 8.9-cubic-foot cargo hold is not only cramped, but it’s also difficult to access.

  • The Evoque's 20.3 cubic feet of cargo space is somewhat limited, but not out of line for a small vehicle like the Evoque." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "The rear trunk of the convertible is laughable. It's a deep cubby with a capacity of 8.8 cubic feet that requires you bend at an awkward level to load and unload items. This could cause some ergonomic strain, especially for people with back issues." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • There are also compromises to cargo room. A small opening in the rear flips open to reveal 8.9 cubic feet of cargo space, which is enough to carry bags for a weekend getaway or a set of golf clubs but not much else." -- Cars.com (2017)
