2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Overview

Is the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque a Good Used SUV?

For the majority of luxury subcompact SUV shoppers, a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque will not be a good option. Its sloped styling adds to the vehicle’s sporty look, but it hinders rearward visibility, cargo space, and rear-seat access. Additionally, the 2016 Evoque has a worst-in-class reliability rating. While it has athletic handling and is a decent off-roader, its harsh suspension isn’t ideal for daily driving.

How Much Is the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque?

Based on more than 110 listings for this vehicle on our site, the price of a used 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque ranges from $32,000 to $43,900. The average list price is $37,200. Prices vary depending on the SUV’s condition, mileage, location, and features.

How Much Does the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Cost to Own?

When choosing a vehicle, purchase price isn’t the only expense to consider. You’ll also need to take into account ongoing costs for gas, insurance, repairs, and maintenance. The 2016 Evoque’s five-year estimated costs for these expenses come to almost $29,300. That’s more than other luxury subcompact SUVs’ ongoing costs – but not by much. Five-year estimated expenses for the Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA are roughly $1,200 lower.

Is It Better to Buy a Used or New Range Rover Evoque?

A new 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque starts at $41,800, which is $4,600 more than the 2016 model’s average list price. If you’re into power, you’ll like the 2018 model’s two new engines. There’s also a convertible body type, and All-Terrain Progress Control (a low-speed cruise control system). Unless you need these features, opt for the 2016 model. You’ll get an otherwise similar vehicle at a lower cost. Also note that if you want a three-door model, you’ll have the buy used. That model was discontinued for 2018.

If you want a new car for about the price of a used 2016 Evoque, consider the 2018 BMW X1 ($33,900) or 2019 Volvo XC40 ($33,200). Both offer stellar performance and top-notch cabins.

Which Model Year of the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Is Best?

The 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque marks the fifth year of a generation that launched in 2012. Models from 2013 to 2015 don’t have particularly good overall scores. The 2016 doesn’t score better, but it does have an improved infotainment system, lane keep assist, a head-up display, and a hands-free tailgate. The 2017 earned a more respectable overall score, thanks in part to a slightly improved reliability score (2.5 out of five). The 2017 model is your best choice.

Which Used Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Model Is Right for Me?

The 2016 Land Rover Evoque is available in two body styles: a five-door SUV and a three-door coupe. Five trims are available: SE, SE Premium, HSE, HSE Dynamic, and Autobiography. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque SE has leather seats, an 8-inch touch screen, a USB input, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, and off-road driving modes. The Evoque SE Premium trim adds a navigation system, an app suite, and a hands-free tailgate.

Unless you want more safety and comfort features, either of the two lowest trims should suit your needs. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque HSE trim adds heated front seats, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert, and the Evoque HSE Dynamic trim includes sportier driving modes. The Evoque Autobiography trim features parallel park assist, traffic sign recognition, and additional comfort and active safety features.

Certified Pre-Owned Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Warranty

With the Evoque’s low reliability score, you might want to consider a certified pre-owned model. Land Rover extends its original new-car warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles for certified pre-owned vehicles. Every CPO Land Rover must pass a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Land Rover warranty page carefully. The model's original sale date determines whether it is eligible for the CPO program.

According to our analysis, Land Rover Range Rover has an average CPO warranty program. You can get better warranties from competitors like Lexus and Mercedes-Benz.

2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque or 2016 BMW X1?

The BMW X1 and Range Rover Evoque sit at opposite ends of our class rankings, with the former offering nearly everything the latter doesn’t. The X1 has a class-leading reliability score, roomy back seats, and plenty of cargo space, which can’t be said of the Evoque. Both SUVs offer sharp steering and easy maneuverability. The 2016 X1 won both of our Best Car awards for the 2016 model year. It’s the vehicle to buy.

Which Is Better: 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque or 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA?

Similar to the Evoque, the Mercedes-Benz GLA suffers from limited space in the back seat and cargo area, so neither is a good option for people who run car pools or routinely need lots of cargo space. On the other hand, both have a long list of advanced safety features and luxurious interiors. However, the GLA’s higher reliability rating and cushioned ride earn it the recommendation over its rival.

2016 Range Rover Evoque Performance

How Does the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Drive?

The four-wheel-drive 2016 Range Rover Evoque has a muscular 240-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces rapid acceleration and 250 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard. Responsive steering and a tight suspension offer sporty handling, but with it comes a relatively harsh ride quality. The Evoque’s four-wheel-drive system and multiple traction control modes make it a solid vehicle for light off-roading. It can also tow nearly 4,000 pounds when properly equipped.

Does the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Get Good Gas Mileage?

Fuel economy is rated at an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Most luxury subcompact SUVs have similar estimates and come standard with all-wheel drive. The Range Rover Evoque convertible has slightly lower estimates of 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
