2015 Land Rover LR2 Overview

Is the 2015 Land Rover LR2 a Good Used SUV?

The 2015 Land Rover LR2 does better on off-road treks than on-road journeys. Otherwise, it offers little comfort on the open road. The LR2 has a below-average predicted reliability rating, poor acceleration, cramped rear seats, and infotainment technology that is outclassed by the competition. There are better choices among luxury compact SUVs.

Used 2015 Land Rover LR2 Performance and Interior

The 2015 Land Rover LR2 gets its power from a 240-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. The LR2 has poor throttle response and weaker acceleration than its rivals. However, its engine performs well when off-roading thanks to smooth low-end power delivery. The LR2 is less agile than its competitors. It has sluggish steering, and its tall body leans heavily during cornering. It has a generally composed ride but feels stiff over small bumps. The LR2 is equipped with full-time four-wheel drive and Land Rover's Terrain Response System, which has drive modes for different types of terrain, including mud, snow, ruts, sand, and rock. Although the LR2 isn’t the best off-roader in the Land Rover lineup, it is one of the best among luxury compact SUVs.

According to the EPA, the 2015 LR2 gets 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, which is poor for the class. The all-wheel-drive 2015 BMW X3 gets better fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway from its 240-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Should I Consider Another Used LR2?

Which Used Land Rover LR2 Is Right for Me?

Used 2015 LR2s are available in three trim levels: base, HSE, and HSE Lux. Base-model features include keyless start, leather seats and a leather steering wheel, automatic climate control, a power tilt panoramic sunroof, Bluetooth, an 11-speaker Meridian audio system, an infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen, heated mirrors, and power front seats. The Land Rover LR2 HSE trim adds driver’s seat memory, power-folding mirrors, and a rearview camera. Some models feature HID headlights. Top-trim HSE Lux models include a 17-speaker sound system, premium leather seating surfaces, and auto-leveling headlights. A rearview camera and heated driver’s seat can be found in some models. The base LR2 is well equipped enough for most buyers.

With its below-average reliability rating, you might want to consider a certified pre-owned LR2. Land Rover extends its original new-car warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles for certified pre-owned vehicles. Every CPO Land Rover must pass a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Land Rover warranty page carefully.

2015 Land Rover LR2 and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Land Rover LR2 or 2015 BMW X3?

The 2015 BMW X3 offers a contrast to the LR2. It has a spacious rear seat, nimble handling, and a variety of available engines compared to the LR2’s sole engine option. The X3 has more overall cargo capacity and better fuel economy than the LR2. The X3 lacks the LR2’s off-road capabilities, but otherwise the BMW is a much better choice and offers much better on-road driving dynamics.

Which Is Better: 2015 Land Rover LR2 or 2015 Porsche Macan?

The 2015 Porsche Macan has sports car-like handling and potent engine choices. The LR2 can make neither of those claims. The Macan features a powerful twin-turbo 340-horsepower V6 as standard, and its fuel economy is about the same as the LR2's much less powerful engine. The LR2’s relatively lackluster scores in every segment make the Macan the better choice.

Which Is Better: 2015 Land Rover LR2 or 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport?

The 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport might cost a little more than the LR2, but it could be money well-spent. The Discovery Sport has more front and rear legroom than the LR2, as well as more cargo space. The Discovery Sport is the more agile of the two, and it returns better fuel economy. While they both fall toward the lower end of our ratings, the Discovery Sport's scores are quite a bit higher, making it the better vehicle by a significant margin.
