2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport Interior Review

Interior: 7.8

The 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport's interior is built with function in mind, but it is also stylish and uses high-end materials. The seats are comfortable and spacious (except the optional third row), and there’s plenty of cargo room. The list of standard and available features is impressive, but the infotainment system could work quicker.

  • "With an interior bristling with pragmatic style, the Discovery Sport's inside offers the same blend of off-road utility and luxury-brand plushness the rest of the SUV delivers. The efficient, blocky theme feels right in line with off-road adventuring, but the deep-dish seating … and leather upholstery (leather and cloth on SE versions) remind you this is a luxury SUV." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • While we like the elegance of the materials, some might find the Disco Sport's interior just a bit too simple." -- Edmunds (2016)
  • "The interior design is the type that manages to look like as though it belongs in a true luxury vehicle but is one that you wouldn't hesitate to get dirty, if you actually needed to." -- Left Lane News (2015)

The Discovery Sport seats five and comes with partial leather upholstery and 10-way power-adjustable front seats. A third row that boosts seating capacity to seven is available. Upgraded leather upholstery, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel are also available.

The front seats are roomy and comfortable, and provide the driver great visibility. The rear seats also have a fair amount of space, especially for a compact SUV. A slight stadium seating setup means that rear-seat passengers also have good visibility. The available third row is tiny and won’t be a good spot for adults.

The Discovery Sport has two full sets of LATCH connectors for installing car seats. Most types of car seats fit without much trouble, and the lower anchors are easy to use. The tether anchors can be tough to find though.

  • "Drivers will find plenty of space, easy access, and good sight lines to the front and sides. The rear seats are unusually spacious and comfortable for a vehicle of this size. A giant fixed panoramic roof lets in a lot of light, but it doesn't tilt or slide open. A cramped third-row of seats is an option." -- Consumer Reports
  • "The raised 2nd-row seats -- ah, stadium seating! -- slide and recline, and will easily accommodate 6-foot-4 occupants, and the smart interior packaging gives it more usable cargo space than its larger BMW X3 and Audi Q5 rivals." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "The front seats are roomy and comfortable, and the second row is quite versatile. It slides forward and aft up to 6.3 inches, enabling plenty of legroom, and the seatbacks recline to improve comfort. The available third row is nice for bragging rights, but it's just for small kids." -- Chicago Tribune (2016)

Interior Features

The Discovery Sport comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, three USB ports, Bluetooth, a 10-speaker audio system, an 8-inch touch screen, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and the InControl Remote smartphone app.

Available features include a panoramic sunroof, an 11- or 16-speaker Meridian audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, an upgraded 10.2-inch touch screen, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a head-up display, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, park assist, lane keep assist, a surround-view camera system, front parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and driver drowsiness monitoring.

The infotainment system interface is intuitive and controlled with gestures that will be familiar to any smartphone user. It’s not perfect though. The screen is a far reach for some drivers, and it can respond slowly at times.

  • "We're also fans of its unique rotary shifter and the SUV's 8-inch touch screen and intuitive infotainment system." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The infotainment system is operated by a too-small touch screen that is a far reach away with a user interface that can be slow to respond. There are shortcuts for some functions, such as the one to activate the seat heaters. It's not hard to figure out the rotary shifter, but it lacks some desired safeguards." -- Consumer Reports
  • The large 8-inch touchscreen mounted in the center of the dash offers a much-improved interface that uses smartphone-like gestures to control climate, audio, phone and (optional) navigation functions, as well as to access available apps including iHeartRadio, Stitcher and more. It works well, but it can be too much of a reach at times, especially the accompanying physical buttons on its right side." -- Edmunds (2016)

The Discovery Sport has 34.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up and 62.75 cubic feet with them folded. These are some of the highest totals in the class, and the wide, tall cargo area makes loading and unloading your items easy. A hands-free power liftgate is available.

  • "Speaking of hauling, fold down all the rear seats and you have a cargo hold with 60 cubic feet of space. Numerically, this is an average amount for a compact luxury crossover, but the Disco Sport's boxy shape makes the most of it. Although this SUV has 'Sport' in its name, its utility is actually more appealing." -- Edmunds (2016)
  • "Despite being shorter than its BMW X3 and Audi Q5 rivals, the 2015 Discovery Sport's smart interior packaging gives it significantly more usable cargo space and a wide opening for easy loading/unloading." -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)
  • Note that while there's normally decent cargo space behind the 2nd-row seat, there's barely enough room for a few grocery bags behind a deployed 3rd-row seat." -- Consumer Guide (2015)
