A certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle is a great alternative for buyers on a budget looking for the peace of mind a new-car warranty brings. Land Rover offers a competitive CPO program featuring a warranty that extends past many other luxury SUV competitors’ CPO warranties. However, the warranty isn’t the only component of the CPO experience. Read on to find out the other features of a certified pre-owned Land Rover and to discover if a Land Rover CPO is the right fit for you.

Which Used Land Rover Vehicles Are Eligible?

Land Rover makes luxury sport utility vehicles. All nameplates in Land Rover’s portfolio are eligible for its certified pre-owned program, but vehicles must satisfy several requirements in order to become certified.

In addition to passing Land Rover’s comprehensive, 165-point inspection process, vehicles must be less than five years old and have traveled fewer than 60,000 miles. They must also have been built for sale in the U.S., come with a complete service history, and lack aftermarket modifications that Land Rover hasn’t approved.

Inspection Process

Land Rover certified pre-owned vehicles undergo a 165-point inspection process. Certified technicians will check the condition of all systems, including the electrical, heating, and air conditioning systems.

The inspection process also evaluates the vehicle’s luggage compartment, interior, and emissions. Inspectors will check the car’s individual components, from paintwork to airbags to infotainment functions. Finally, the required road test makes sure that the car’s engine, brakes, and suspension are in top shape.

The Land Rover Approved Certified Limited Warranty covers vehicles for up to seven years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, as long as the vehicle is serviced as recommended by Land Rover. The seven-year/100,000-mile CPO warranty extends the vehicle’s original four-year/50,000-mile warranty. The CPO warranty is transferrable to subsequent owners.

Coverage starts from the vehicle’s original in-service date. There is no deductible for repairs covered by the Approved Certified Pre-Owned Program.

Customers receive standard emergency towing services to the nearest Land Rover retailer at any time as part of the Land Rover Roadside Assistance Program, whether the vehicle has become disabled due to a breakdown, an accident, a tire puncture, or an accidental lock out.

Owners are also entitled to reimbursement for lodging, transportation, and other travel-related expenses if a certified pre-owned Land Rover breaks or becomes disabled due to a defect covered by the warranty.

Each certified pre-owned Land Rover comes with a vehicle history report that documents its service history, ownership record, and mileage.

How Does It Compare to Rivals?

Land Rover’s CPO warranty – up to seven years or 100,000 miles from the original date of ownership – lasts a bit longer than most of those offered by other luxury brands (except for Jaguar, Land Rover’s sister brand, which offers a similar warranty). The CPO warranties offered by BMW, Audi, Cadillac, and Porsche cover two years or 50,000 miles once the original factory warranty runs out.

Volvo’s warranty covers three years or 50,000 miles after the original four-year/50,000-mile warranty expires. Lexus’ CPO warranty is good for two years after its four-year/50,000-mile new-vehicle basic warranty expires, but mileage is unlimited. Mercedes-Benz provides an unlimited-mileage warranty for one year and offers buyers the choice to extend the original warranty for up to two additional years.
