2020 Kia Telluride Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.1

The 2020 Kia Telluride has a premium cabin full of top-notch materials. The first two rows of seats are spacious and comfortable, and cargo space is above average for the class. This Kia also comes standard with a ton of driver aids.

  • "Kia always manages to make interiors assembled with cost in mind feel like money was close to no object, and things are even better in the Telluride. None of the wood or 'metal' surfaces are real, but if we didn’t mention that, you’d be hard-pressed to notice." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "Materials quality is outstanding throughout, and the top-level SX trim is impressive for the fact that none of the metal or wood trim is real, but damned if you won't think it is. Genuine Nappa leather covers those comfortable seats, which can hold seven or eight occupants depending on which seating option you've chosen." -- Cars.com
  • But it's inside where the Telluride shines, thanks to the use of soft-touch materials, attractive plastics, and attentive ergonomics. All trim levels boast leather or synthetic leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The available faux-wood inserts and simulated brushed metal that split the dash are tastefully executed and help the Telluride to teeter on the edge of luxury." -- Car and Driver

 Seating

This three-row SUV seats eight people in its standard configuration. Replacing the second-row split-bench seat with captain’s chairs lowers max occupancy to seven. Synthetic leather seats and power-folding second-row seats come standard. Heated and ventilated front- and second-row seats are available, as are power-adjustable front seats, genuine leather upholstery, and a heated steering wheel.

Adults have enough space to comfortably sit in the first two rows. Headroom gets a bit tight in the third row for taller passengers, though children and smaller adults should be fine. Accessing the third row is easy, thanks to the power-folding-and-sliding second row. For installing child safety seats, there are two full sets of LATCH connectors in the second row and a third set on the third-row middle seat.

For securing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the Telluride’s second-row outboard seats and another full set for the driver’s-side third-row seat. The middle seats of both rear rows feature a top tether anchor. For ease of use, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the system the second-highest rating of Acceptable.

  • Of note, the Telluride’s adjustable second row seat is super spacious, roomy enough for a person who’s 6-foot-4 to sit behind a driver of the same height. That third row, however, is best suited for two people of, say, 5-foot-7 or shorter, because of headroom concerns. You might also squeeze three small kids onto that back bench reasonably comfortably." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Inside, the Telluride is spacious, quiet and comfortable. The front seats have excellent thigh support, plenty of width and just enough bolstering to keep you in place without being too flat or too padded." -- Cars.com
  • "The Telluride also distinguishes itself with a few cool features. One is an easy-moving second-row seat, which is even simpler to move out of the way than the second row in competitors: all you have to do is push a button, and it slides forward to create easy access to the third row." -- Autotrader

 Interior Features

The Telluride comes standard with Kia's UVO infotainment system, an 8-inch touch screen, smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system, six USB ports, Bluetooth, push-button start, remote start, and proximity keyless entry. All trims also come with a full suite of safety features, including adaptive cruise control, safe exit assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and a pre-collision warning and braking system with pedestrian detection.

Optional equipment includes a 10.25-inch touch screen, navigation, a 10-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo, wireless phone charging, an additional USB port, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear-passenger automatic temperature control, and a sunroof. A few driver aids are available too, such as blind spot monitoring, automatic high beams, a 360-degree parking camera, and highway driving assist, which uses radar to track lane markings and other vehicles.

Using the infotainment system is generally straightforward, and many critics praise the abundance of standard safety features. Quiet Mode, which restricts audio output to the front row, and Driver Talk, which projects the front passengers’ voices through rear-seat speakers, also draw praise.

  • "We spent all of our time in a loaded-out SX with the luxe Prestige package, replete with Nappa leather upholstery and a microfiber headliner, so we can’t speak on entry-level Tellurides. But at least in those we drove, there’s plenty of tech to keep you satisfied and connected. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard on all trim levels, projected through either the standard 8.0-inch infotainment screen or higher trim’s 10.3-inch unit. Don’t worry about waking the sleepy passengers in the back thanks to the new Quiet Mode that can restrict infotainment audio output to just the front row. Conversely, if it’s getting a little rowdy, Driver Talk allows the front passengers to project their voices to the rear through an integrated microphone system." -- Automobile Magazine
  • Crossover shoppers nowadays are in love with electronic, infotainment and safety features and the Telluride won’t disappoint them. There are more acronyms inside the Telluride than on a government RFP." -- Autoweek
  • "An 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard fare and can be upgraded to a 10.3-inch unit. The display renders crisp graphics, and the system is intuitive to operate and responsive to inputs. Audiophiles will appreciate the available Harman/Kardon system's sound quality." -- Car and Driver

 Cargo

The 2020 Kia Telluride has 21 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 46 cubic feet behind the second row, and a maximum of 87 cubic feet with both rows folded down. All three figures are phenomenal among midsize SUVs.

  • "Cargo room is ample, with 21 cubic feet of storage space behind the third row, which expands to 46 cubic feet with the way-back bench folded. With both rows folded flat, the Telluride offers 87 cubic feet of space, which is about equal with the Subaru Ascent. Only the Volkswagen Atlas offers more cargo room -- a whopping 97 cubic feet." -- CNET
  • And truth be told, there’s not a whole lot of space behind the rear bench seat, which splits 60/40. With rear seat in use, there’s maybe enough room back there for a few carry-on bags (or a load of groceries), not much else. On a positive note, the reclining rear bench folds forward with ease to increase the Telluride’s cargo capacity, via manual straps. And if you want the center row folded as well, it’s simply a matter of pushing the individual buttons on the driver’s side of the Telluride’s cargo area." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • " But at 21 cubic feet, the cargo area behind the third row eclipses the Expedition's." -- Car and Driver
