2019 Kia Stinger Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.7

The 2019 Kia Stinger has an opulent cabin that rivals pricier luxury sedans. Cargo space is good for the class, and there’s a nice amount of legroom in both rows. Comfortable seats and a user-friendly infotainment system round out this car’s interior charm.

  • "With clear hints of Mercedes-Benz design, the 2019 Kia Stinger’s interior is as handsome as it is functional. The overall layout is familiar as it appears in Kia’s other models (Forte, Sedona, Optima, etc.), but there’s an upgraded look and feel to the surfaces and switchgear. Stylish touches include exposed speaker grilles and large round S-Class-like center vents." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The interior layout is as imaginative as anything you'll find in an Audi, with creative use of colors, shapes and materials. Leather seats are standard. There's real aluminum trim decorating the cabin and generous use of hand-stitching on the doors, seats and console." -- New York Daily News (2018)
  • "Swing the Stinger's weighty door open, and its interior presents a mostly honest, high-quality feel. … All 3.3T variants benefit from real aluminum surfaces inside, which helps impart a feeling of substance and authenticity, though bits like the faux leather dash topping betray the cabin's otherwise luxurious bent. The most prominent Kia elements remain the infotainment/navigation system's graphical interface." -- Autoblog (2018)

Seating

The Stinger seats five people on standard leather seats. Power-adjustable and heated front seats are standard too. Additional power adjustments, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel are available. There are two sets of LATCH connections for securing child car seats, as well as a middle-seat upper tether anchor.

Head- and legroom is generally good in both rows, though there are mixed reviews regarding headroom for tall passengers in the back due to the sloping roofline. The seats are comfortable and supportive, and good insulation keeps out harsh outside sounds.

  • There’s good legroom front and rear, although tall passengers may want to ride up front." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "It's not just comfortable from the driver's seat, either. The Kia has 2 to 4 inches of wheelbase over the Germans, and it puts them to good use. There's ample rear-seat legroom and, despite the sloping roof, headroom for tall people. The front seats, meanwhile, are aggressively bolstered so you can concentrate on those mountain roads when you cross their path." -- Motor Trend (2018)
  • "The Stinger GT's front seats are heated and well-bolstered for comfortable thigh and torso support. Options include air-cell lumbar adjustment and width-adjustable seat bolsters that expand or contract to fit different physiques." -- New York Daily News (2018)

Interior Features

This Kia's generous standard features list includes push-button start, proximity keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, lane change assist, front and rear parking sensors, and the UVO infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a six-speaker stereo, two USB ports, Bluetooth, and satellite radio.

Optional equipment includes a nine-speaker stereo, a 15-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, wireless device charging, a navigation system, and a larger 8-inch touch screen. Several more safety features are also available, including lane keep assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a head-up display, and a driver attention monitor.

Kia’s UVO system is easier to use than the interfaces found in many rivals. There are also plenty of redundant physical controls that make adjusting volume and climate settings a breeze.

  • We also like the easy-to-use touchscreen interface and its wealth of features, though we wish it was easier to reach." -- Autotrader
  • "A flat-screen infotainment display with Kia's latest software and connectivity capabilities sprouts from the top center of the dashboard. … Redundant knobs and buttons for major audio controls are arrayed below and under that equally easy-to-use climate buttons and knobs. The design is tidy and keeps touchscreen menu-surfing distractions to a minimum." -- New York Daily News (2018)
  • "Infotainment-wise, the cabin goes without [a] complicated … multifunction controller like Audi's MMI, BMW's iDrive or Lexus' unspeakably bad Remote Touch, but even if Kia's latest UVO system is marginally less sophisticated, its 8-inch touchscreen (7-inch on 2.0T models) is significantly easier to use than those systems." -- CNET (2018)

Cargo

The Stinger's trunk has 23.3 cubic feet of space. The rear seats fold down to reveal a total of 40.9 cubic feet. Both figures are well above average for a small luxury car.

  • "Cargo area measures a generous 23.3 cubic-feet, which is more than double the trunk size of some entry luxury sedans. … The hatch also provides a large opening for loading stuff that wouldn't fit in the trunks of most traditional sport sedans. Despite the big cargo aperture, you can feel the impressive level of body structure rigidity, something the Stinger's development team concentrated on to meet the challenge of its very stiff-bodied German competitors." -- New York Daily News (2018)
  • "Cargo space is also impressive because of the Stinger's rear hatch that hinges above the glass." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
