2021 Kia Sportage Interior Review

Interior: 8.0

The 2021 Kia Sportage has a great interior, with high-end cabin materials, spacious seating, and user-friendly technology. However, its cargo dimensions are below average for the class.

  • "The Sportage’s interior has a beautifully designed and executed layout. Great materials selection and tasteful restraint are complemented by excellent fit and finish." -- Autotrader
  • "The Sportage's interior feels high-quality for the class and has some nice features." -- Edmunds
  • "There are cubbies and storage spots galore and on upper-end trims, heated rear seats." -- Kelley Blue Book (2020)

The Sportage offers 30.7 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 60.1 cubic feet with this row folded down. These numbers are below average for a compact SUV. There is a decent amount of storage space for smaller items, though. A power liftgate is standard in EX and SX Turbo trims.

  • "Behind the rear seats, luggage space measures 30.7 cubic feet. Folding those seats down opens up a cargo area of 60.1 cubic feet. For context, the Honda CR-V enjoys 37.6 to 75.8 cubic feet." -- Autotrader
  • "The Sportage’s 30.7 cubic feet of luggage space behind the rear seats expands to 60.1 cubic feet when they’re folded down. Neither figure compares well with the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "This is an SUV that puts emphasis on space for passengers rather than for their belongings. The cargo area is still fairly useful, but the Sportage has significantly less cargo capacity than other compact SUVs." -- Edmunds (2020)

Five people can fit inside the Sportage's cabin. The seats are comfortable and provide plenty of support. There's generous head- and legroom in both rows, and outward visibility is good.

Cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats are standard. Optional comfort features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a heated steering wheel, and ventilated front seats.

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the rear middle seat. The tether anchors are easy to find, but the lower anchors are set too deeply in the seats.

  • "The cabin of a 2021 Kia Sportage can make drivers and passengers alike look forward to the next trip, thanks to supportive and comfortable seats, logical control positioning, and red backlighting that makes the instrument panel easy to read at night." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "With just a slightly taller stance than a comparably sized sedan, the compact crossover is more comfortable, offers greater visibility and nearly matches the performance and fuel economy of its trunk-laden cousins." -- Autotrader (2020)
  • "No shortage of head- or legroom up front. Surprisingly, the same is true in back — two 6-footers fit without issue. The back seat is remarkably roomy for a compact crossover, and the seat itself is mounted high for good thigh support." -- Edmunds (2019)

Interior Features

Kia's standard UVO infotainment interface is user-friendly. The standard 8-inch touch screen is positioned toward the driver, which makes it easy to access. Navigating the interface is a breeze thanks to the display’s crisp graphics and quick response times. In addition to the touch screen, there are also physical climate and audio controls. Other standard infotainment features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, six speakers, Bluetooth, a USB port, and voice recognition.

The Sportage also comes standard with remote keyless entry, a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, a driver attention monitor, and high-beam assist.

Available features include satellite radio, navigation, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, wireless device charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, and automated park assist.

  • "The many standard and optional features should please even the pickiest buyer, especially in the loaded SX Turbo." -- Autotrader
  • "Kia's touchscreens … feature sharp graphics and quick responses. The main controls are clearly labeled and easy to use. The center stack tilts toward the driver, putting more controls within close reach." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Rejecting the temptation to turn the Sportage into a rolling tablet, Kia has wisely retained a generous portion of old-fashioned knobs and hard buttons for things like climate control and fan speed. The touch-screen infotainment system is the one exception, but even it has proper knobs for volume and tuning." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
