2010 Kia Sportage Overview

The 2010 Kia Sportage is easy to overlook. When it was new, reviewers said that the Sportage had a comfortable ride and decent handling, but thought the Sportage’s four-cylinder and V6 engines were sluggish compared to those found in rival compact SUV. In fact, some four-cylinder SUVs trumped the Sportage’s V6 in terms of power.

Available with front- or all-wheel drive, the 2010 Sportage gets up to 20/25 mpg city/highway, which is a bit low for the class. The Sportage’s performance in crash tests also trails the segment’s safest SUVs.

The Sportage’s interior is roomy and features high-quality materials. When it was new, reviewers liked the seat comfort in both the front and back and noted the ample leg- and headroom. The Sportage has the ability to seat five, but several reviewers said putting three adults in the back seat would be a snug fit. Still, reviewers liked that the rear seats easily fold flat to create more cargo room, and appreciated that controls are simple to read and use.

The base Sportage LX comes with keyless entry, cruise control, satellite radio and a USB jack. The EX trim adds features like a sunroof, foglights and larger wheels. Parking sensors, leather, heated front seats, an upgraded stereo and navigation were all optional when the Sportage was new.

Other Cars to Consider

The highly-ranked 2010 Hyundai Tucson’s base engine produces nearly 36 more horsepower than the Sportage’s, while achieving much better combined fuel economy. With the Tucson, you also gain better safety scores and higher interior quality compared to the Sportage. However, the Sportage has more cargo space with the seats folded down.

If you’re considering the Sportage, you should take a look at the 2010 Toyota RAV4. The RAV4 offers better performance and safety scores than the Sportage. Like the Tucson, the RAV4 gets more power out of its base four-cylinder engine with better fuel economy. The RAV4 also has available third-row seats and has ample cargo space.
