2007 Kia Sportage Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2007 Kia Sportage was new.

Interior: 7.1

The Kia Sportage surprises with roomier, more comfortable seating than many competitors, along with upscale features and a stylish interior design. Newsday describes the interior materials as having "visual and tactile quality competitive in this price range and beyond."

The majority of reviewers describe the 2007 Kia Sportage's interior as stylish, comfortable and roomy. The base model offers cloth seats, while the top-of-the-line EX model includes optional leather seats. According to reviews, the Sportage succeeds in providing a great level of comfort for driver and passengers. The Auto Channel says, "We felt the seats were comfortable for long trips. They were cloth covered and had a nice feel." Road & Travel also likes the seats, saying they "are remarkably easy to fold totally flat." During tests (which included the 2WD LX and AWD EX), Consumer Guide found that there is ample head- and legroom but that the available sunroof "cuts into head room for taller occupants."

Interior Features

The Sportage has left most experts impressed with interior features and quality, which compete or beat class-leading competitors. Consumer Guide notes that the materials quality of the Sportage bests those of the Honda CR-V and is "slightly upscale of [the Hyundai] Tucson." The Detroit News adds, "The knobs and dials are on a par with Toyota quality, the industry's benchmark."

Notable features include the sunroof (which is standard on the EX) and AM/FM/CD stereo with six speakers (standard on the LX models). All models also include power windows, mirrors and door locks. Air conditioning is optional on the LX I4 2WD M/T. The EX also includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an AM/FM/Cassette/MP3 audio system and keyless entry and alarm.

The cargo space of the Sportage also receives sufficient praise. According to Auto Mall USA, "If it is cargo you want to carry the Sportage delivers the goods." The Chicago Tribune refers to the "surprise and delight" aspects of the Sportage's interior, which include "a series of hidden storage compartments under the rear cargo floor (the spare tire is underneath) to store valuables." According to Kia, the cargo volume is 23.6 cubic feet (with the backseat up) and 66.6 cubic feet with the seat down. Car and Driver also likes "the optional under-the-floor storage tray that's handy for concealing valuables." Calling its cargo size "competitive," Cars.com also adds that "its retractable cargo cover is much better than the rigid one Hyundai uses."
