2011 Kia Soul Overview

The 2011 Kia Soul stands out among small used cars with its funky shape, but its design also has practical benefits. Car reviewers said that the square-shaped Soul has plenty of head- and legroom, as well as lots of cargo space.

Though the Kia Soul wasn’t very expensive it was new, car reviewers said that this affordable small car’s build quality is pretty good for the price. The base 2011 Soul has a solid list of interior features that includes a four-speaker stereo, USB and auxiliary ports, air conditioning and power windows and door locks. If you choose a higher trim, you’ll get features that are also spot-on for the class, such as Bluetooth, steering wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls and keyless entry. Navigation, which is often available on affordable small cars, isn’t available on the Soul.

The 2011 Soul came with a choice of two four-cylinder engines. The base Soul has a 1.6-liter engine, while higher trims get a 2.0-liter engine that adds 20 horsepower. Reviewers said that neither engine is very powerful, so if you’re looking for strong performance, the Soul may not be the best fit. The base engine is the most fuel-efficient, averaging 26/31 mpg city/highway.

The Soul stands out in the class with a strong list of standard safety features and great crash test scores.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2011 Nissan Cube is another small used car with a boxy shape, which means it has good passenger space. Overall cargo room is good, but with the rear seats in use, the Cube has about as much cargo space as small coupes. While the Cube’s engine is far from powerful, reviewers said that given its odd shape, the Cube is surprisingly nimble. The Nissan Cube has an average amount of interior features and a great safety score.

The 2011 Scion xB is yet another boxy car with roomy seats and good cargo space. The xB is also loaded with standard interior features. Some car reviewers preferred the way the 2011 xB drove, but others commented that all three cars suffered from body lean and a lack of engine power. The xB’s fuel economy ratings are less than those of the Soul and Cube.
