2013 Kia Sorento Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 Kia Sorento was new.

Interior: 7.4

The 2013 Kia Sorento’s interior is smaller than most of its three-row competitors', but it comes standard with a typical list of standard features and its cabin is well-made and good-looking. Reviewers say the Sorento’s front seats are comfortable, but they note that the second-row is tighter than roomier rivals. They also don’t agree on the optional third-row seats; one says it’s best to leave that row for children, while another writes that the row is adult-sized.

  • "At highway speeds, the Sorento's cabin remains impressively isolated from both road and wind noise.” -- Edmunds
  • "If you regularly need to carry seven passengers and still need room for their gear, the Sorento might be too small.” -- Kelley Blue Book

The 2013 Kia Sorento comes standard with seating for five in two rows, but an optional third row with two seatbelts can be added to some trims. Reviewers say the front seats are comfortable, and that their high-up seating position affords a good view of the road. Testers are surprised at how roomy the optional third row is, though one writes that it’s still best left for kids. They’re disappointed by the second-row space, however. Reviewers say the second row could use more legroom, and that three people can’t share the second row comfortably.

  • "The front seats provide plenty of comfort for long trips and offer the type of commanding view of the road that crossover buyers want. … But the third-row seat does feature 50/50-split-folding seatbacks and enough room for adults, which is unique to a vehicle of its size.” -- Edmunds
  • "Legroom is good in the 3-passenger second row, but expectedly tight in the 2-seat third row. That last row is best for children, and folds flat when not in use.” -- Kelley Blue Book

Interior Features

The 2013 Sorento comes standard with an average number of standard features, including Bluetooth phone connectivity, steering-wheel mounted audio and cruise controls, auxiliary and USB audio input jacks and a tilt and telescoping steering wheel. Optional features include Uvo, Kia’s infotainment system, push-button start, a rearview camera and navigation. The Sorento doesn’t come standard with separate rear-seat climate controls or a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, which could be a deal breaker for some.

Test drivers say Kia’s Uvo system works well, and they’re impressed with the quality of the Sorento’s cabin. A few say the interior isn’t quite as attractive as some of the Sorento’s more recently redesigned siblings, but overall, it’s well-made and good-looking for the class.

  • "The Sorento's cabin doesn't have the visual flair of its more recently redesigned Kia siblings, but it's attractive enough and benefits from the brand's usual array of audio and climate controls that are intuitive with a substantial feel. … Kia's Uvo system also works very well.” -- Edmunds
  • “Peek inside a well-equipped Kia Sorento and you might think you're looking at a car from a premium brand.” -- Kelley Blue Book

The 2013 Kia Sorento can hold 9.1 cubic feet of cargo behind its third row, 37 cubic feet behind the second row and 72.5 cubic feet with both rear rows stowed. That’s less than most of the Sorento’s three-row competitors. Test drivers don’t say much about the Sorento’s cargo space, but in past years, they’ve mentioned that models without the optional third row can fit more cargo, and that interior space is adequate.

  • “The space is much larger on models without 3rd-row seating. The deep center console is nice, but cabin storage is unremarkable otherwise." -- Consumer Guide (2012)
