2009 Kia Rondo Overview

The 2009 Kia Rondo has a four-cylinder base engine, which reviewers said has enough power for city driving. However, many wrote that the Rondo needs more power for highway passing and merging, and that the base model’s automatic transmission really needs another gear. The base engine mated with the automatic gets 20/27 mpg city/highway, which is average for the class. The available six-cylinder engine uses a bit less fuel, but reviewers preferred it over the base engine. Test drivers also liked the smooth, composed handling that the Kia Rondo offers.

Reviewers noted that the Rondo is a great alternate for small families who don’t want to drive a minivan, but still want space. Although the Rondo looks small on the outside, it can seat up to seven with its available third-row seat. Reviewers said the third row is more spacious than they expected, and that two adults should be able to sit there comfortably. The Rondo holds 6.5 cubic feet of cargo space when all seats are in use. With the available third row is folded, the maximum space expands to 31.7 cubic feet, which still isn’t as much as some competitors' cargo areas. The 2009 Ford Taurus X has 47 cubic feet of cargo space when its third row is folded flat. Reviewers agreed that the standard features list on the Rondo, which included satellite radio, a CD player and an auxiliary input jack, is short. Available features include heated exterior mirrors, a CD changer, a premium sound system, heated seats, a navigation system and integrated roof rails.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2009 Mazda Mazda5 is another vehicle that could be classified as a wagon or minivan, and both vehicles get an estimated 23 mpg combined. The Mazda5 seats six, and the second row is outfitted with a pair of captain’s chairs.

The 2009 Ford Taurus X has high safety scores, which makes it a good option for families. Plus, the Taurus X has flexible seating arrangements that can seat up to seven, just like the Rondo.
