2021 Jeep Renegade Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.0

The 2021 Jeep Renegade has a well-built interior with unique styling, decent seating space, and a usable cargo area. The Renegade’s infotainment system is user-friendly. Most cabin surfaces are a mix of hard and soft plastics, which is typical in this segment.

  • "Regarding interior quality and design, the Renegade compares pretty well with the competition." -- Autotrader
  • "As with the exterior design, the Renegade's interior is made to appeal to the part of our brains that once created full-length dialogues between two dinosaur-shaped erasers. It's filled with odd shapes, toyish trimmings, and small design surprises. … Consider us amused." -- Car and Driver (2020)
  • "The Renegade offers average materials quality for a segment filled with mostly impressive cabins. Even hard plastics don't look especially cheap, while the soft-touch dash and solid switchgear make the cabin look and feel appropriate for its price." -- Edmunds (2019)

Cargo

The Jeep Renegade has 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 50.8 cubic feet with these seats folded. That’s slightly above average for a subcompact SUV.

  • "The cargo area is less accommodating. Its squared-off design gives it an advantage with a maximum space of 50.8 cu ft. But the Renegade’s diminutive footprint means there’s only 18.5 cu ft. behind its rear seats, among the smallest in the class." -- Autotrader
  • "The Renegade's seats have clearly been doing their yoga stretching exercises, as they have no problem folding flat to create a level load floor. But even then, the space is average at best." -- Car and Driver (2020)
  • "There’s also 18.5 cubic feet of storage capacity behind the rear seats. That expands to over 50 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, and in all but base models, the front-passenger seat folds to accommodate longer items like surfboards." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)

Seating

The Jeep Renegade has five seats and comes standard with cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats. Leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel are available.

The Renegade’s front seats are comfy, and there’s enough headroom and legroom for taller drivers and passengers. The rear seats can accommodate two adults in reasonable comfort, with legroom being the limiting factor.

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the rear middle seat. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Renegade's LATCH system the second-highest rating of Acceptable for its ease of use. The only hiccup is that the lower anchors are set deeply in the seats.

  • "Unlike other subcompact crossovers, the Renegade feels more like an SUV from the driver’s seat. Headroom is particularly generous, and the high seating position is not only good for outward vision but also for legroom." -- Autotrader
  • "The Jeep Renegade can fit five but is really more comfortable with just four people on board." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "There's more than enough headroom for taller folks, though they might find issue with the limited legroom when sitting behind another tall passenger." -- Edmunds (2019)

Interior Features

Jeep Renegade standard features include a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, six speakers, Bluetooth, a USB port, remote keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.

Both touch screens have large icons and a user-friendly layout, making these infotainment systems easy to use on-the-go.

  • "The touchscreens are feature-rich, user-friendly, and easy to reach." -- Autotrader
  • "We're also fans of Jeep's Uconnect infotainment system, which has plenty of features and is easy to use." -- Edmunds (2020)
  • "Jeep is lucky that its vehicles use Fiat Chrysler's excellent infotainment system—called Uconnect." -- Car and Driver (2020)
