2020 Jeep Renegade Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 6.8

The 2020 Jeep Renegade features quality cabin materials, and its infotainment system is intuitive and easy to use. The Renegade also offers a decent amount of cargo space. This crossover could use some additional rear legroom and a more generous list of standard features.

  • "As with the exterior design, the Renegade's interior is made to appeal to the part of our brains that once created full-length dialogues between two dinosaur-shaped erasers. It's filled with odd shapes, toyish trimmings, and small design surprises—such as maps imprinted into cupholders and the phrase ‘Since 1941’ stamped into the dash plastic. Consider us amused." -- Car and Driver
  • "The Renegade offers average materials quality for a segment filled with mostly impressive cabins. Even hard plastics don't look especially cheap, while the soft-touch dash and solid switchgear make the cabin look and feel appropriate for its price." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "In terms of interior quality and design, the Renegade is quite good for this segment." -- Autotrader (2019)

Seating

There’s seating for up to five people in the Renegade. The front row has plenty of space, but back seat legroom is in short supply. The Renegade comes standard with cloth upholstery, while leather seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and heated front seats are available.

For installing child safety seats, there are two full sets of LATCH car-seat connectors for the rear outboard seats, as well as an upper tether for the middle seat.

  • The Jeep Renegade can fit five but is really more comfortable with just four people on board." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • There's more than enough headroom for taller folks, though they might find issue with the limited legroom when sitting behind another tall passenger." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Unlike other subcompact crossovers, the Renegade feels more like an SUV from the driver's seat. Headroom is particularly generous and the high seating position is not only good for visibility, but legroom, too." -- Autotrader (2019)

Interior Features

This Jeep features a user-friendly Uconnect infotainment system with a standard 5-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, a USB port, and six speakers. The touch screen responds quickly to inputs and features an intuitive menu system. Most physical controls are logically arranged.

Available infotainment features include a 7-or 8-inch touch screen, a nine-speaker premium audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, satellite radio, and HD Radio. Dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, and remote start are also available.

A rearview camera comes standard, and several advanced safety features are available. They include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, parallel and perpendicular park assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.

  • "We're also fans of Jeep's Uconnect infotainment system, which has plenty of features and is easy to use." -- Edmunds
  • "Jeep is lucky that its vehicles use Fiat Chrysler's excellent infotainment system—called Uconnect. While base models have a standard 5.0-inch touchscreen, 7.0-inch and 8.4-inch versions are available and include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite-radio compatibility." -- Car and Driver
  • "The 7- and 8.4-in touchscreen interfaces are feature-rich, user-friendly and easy to reach." -- Autotrader (2019)

Cargo

The Renegade has 18.5 cubic feet of space behind its back row and 50.8 cubic feet with the back row folded down. That's in line with what several subcompact SUVs offer. However, the high liftover height and narrow cargo area can make it hard to load larger items.

  • The Renegade's seats have clearly been doing their yoga stretching exercises, as they have no problem folding flat to create a level load floor. But even then, the space is average at best." -- Car and Driver
  • There’s also 18.5 cubic feet of storage capacity behind the rear seats. That expands to over 50 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, and in all but base models, the front-passenger seat folds to accommodate longer items like surfboards." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "Less friendly is the cargo area. Though its inherent boxiness gives it an upper hand at times over the competition (its 50.8 cu ft. of maximum space demonstrates this), it ultimately has a smaller footprint behind its raised back seats (with 18.5 cu ft., it's among the smallest in the segment)." -- Autotrader (2019)
