2015 Jeep Patriot Overview

Is the 2015 Jeep Patriot a Good Used SUV?

The 2015 Patriot isn’t a good option if you’re shopping for a used compact SUV. The Patriot rates poorly for crash safety, it’s not available with any advanced safety features, and its jittery ride can be uncomfortable. The Patriot also disappoints with sluggish acceleration, mediocre fuel economy, and low-quality cabin materials.

No matter what you’re looking for in an SUV, there are many better alternatives than the Patriot, including some in the Jeep family. Check out SUVs like the 2015 Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, or Jeep Renegade.

How Much Does the 2015 Jeep Patriot Cost to Own?

Is It Better to Buy a Used or New Patriot?

The Jeep Patriot was discontinued after the 2017 model year, so you won’t find any new Patriot models for sale. If you want a new Jeep, consider the 2019 Renegade, which starts at $22,025. Compared to the Patriot, the Renegade boasts far more standard features, nicer cabin materials, and a comfier driving experience on the road – not to mention better performance off-road. The one drawback is that the Renegade’s interior isn’t as spacious as the Patriot’s.

Which Model Year of the Jeep Patriot Is Best?

The Patriot is part of a generation that spans the 2007 through 2017 model years. The last four models of this generation are very similar. Consider saving money by cross-shopping models from 2014 to 2017. The only notable update from these years is when satellite radio and Bluetooth became standard features for 2016, and a rearview camera became available that same year.

You can save even more money with a 2013-and-earlier model, but you’ll find fewer transmission options and even lower-quality interior materials than the later models.

Which Used Jeep Patriot Model Is Right for Me?

The 2015 Patriot is available in three trim levels: Sport, Latitude, and Limited. You’ll probably want to skip the base Sport model. It’s about as sparsely equipped as a modern vehicle can be. The Jeep Patriot Sport comes standard with manual crank windows, cruise control, a four-speaker stereo, a CD player, cloth upholstery, fog lights, and steel wheels.

The Patriot Latitude trim adds power windows, air conditioning, heated front seats, remote keyless entry, and alloy wheels. The Patriot Limited trim adds leather upholstery, satellite radio, and a six-disc CD changer. Available features include Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, a 6.5-inch touch screen, navigation, a nine-speaker stereo, remote start, and a sunroof.

Certified Pre-Owned Jeep Patriot Warranty

Though you may want to consider a certified pre-owned model for the added coverage and benefits it comes with, keep in mind that Jeep’s CPO program is slightly below average among competing brands. According to our analysis, rivals like Chevrolet, Honda, and Toyota have more comprehensive programs.

Jeep offers a CPO program for vehicles that are five years old or less. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. For these vehicles, Jeep extends the original new-car powertrain warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. CPO vehicles also get a three-month/3,000-mile Maximum Coverage Care warranty. There are restrictions related to mileage and models, so read the Jeep warranty page carefully.

2015 Jeep Patriot Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2015 Jeep Patriot or 2015 Jeep Compass?

The 2015 Jeep Compass and Patriot share a lot in common. Both offer the same engines and transmission options, identical fuel economy estimates, comparable interior space, and nearly all of the same tech features. That would be great if these were merits, but they aren’t. These SUVs rank at the very bottom of the compact SUV class, and neither are good used car buys.

Which Is Better: 2015 Jeep Patriot or 2015 Jeep Cherokee?

The 2015 Jeep Cherokee is a better pick than the Patriot. Compared to the Patriot, the Cherokee has a higher-quality interior, an easier-to-use infotainment system, better crash safety ratings, and more advanced safety features, like forward collision warning. The Cherokee also lives up to Jeep’s Trail Rated badge with a superior four-wheel-drive system and better on- and off-road handling than the Patriot. Still, the Cherokee isn’t a great used SUV because of its poor reliability rating. Consider other options in this class as well.

2015 Patriot Performance

How Does the 2015 Jeep Patriot Drive?

The 2015 Jeep Patriot has two engine options: a 158-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 172-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder. A five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive are standard. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), a six-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive are available.

There isn’t much to get excited about here. Both engines struggle to get the Patriot up to speed, especially when equipped with the CVT. These engines also buzz loudly under hard acceleration. The Patriot’s driving dynamics are similarly unrefined. The steering is vague, and the SUV tends to sway when rounding tight turns. The suspension also clomps and bumps over uneven pavement, producing an uncomfortable ride.

The Patriot can handle muddy trails and deep snow when paired with the Freedom Drive II package, but it isn’t really cut out for serious off-road driving. This package adds all-terrain tires, skid plates, a low-range crawl ratio, and an extra inch of ground clearance (for total of 9.1 inches).

Does the 2015 Jeep Patriot Get Good Gas Mileage?

The Patriot’s 2.0-liter engine gets an EPA-rated 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, which are decent ratings for a small SUV. With the 2.4-liter engine, fuel economy drops to 23/28 mpg city/highway with the five-speed manual transmission, and the worse fuel economy with this engine is 20/23 mpg with the Freedom Drive II package.

2015 Jeep Patriot Towing Capacity

The Patriot is rated to tow up to 2,000 pounds when properly equipped.

How Many People Does the 2015 Patriot Seat?

The 2015 Jeep Patriot is a four-door SUV with five seats. There’s enough head- and legroom for adults to sit comfortably in both rows, but the seats aren’t very supportive. Tall drivers may also find the driving position to be awkward because of the steering wheel’s limited adjustments. Cloth upholstery is standard; leather upholstery and heated front seats are available.

The Patriot’s interior has a low-quality look and feel. Most surfaces are trimmed with hard, shiny plastics. The cabin also lets in a lot of road and wind noise, especially at highway speeds.

How Many Car Seats Fit in the 2015 Jeep Patriot?

The Patriot has two full sets of LATCH connectors for securing child car seats.

2015 Jeep Patriot Features

Every Patriot comes standard with an AM/FM radio and a CD player, and that’s about it. Available features include air conditioning, power windows and door locks, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and a touch-screen navigation system.

The standard radio is simple, but the optional 6.5-inch touch screen is a little cumbersome. One of the Patriot’s few highlights is its available nine-speaker Boston Acoustics stereo, which includes flip-down speakers in the cargo area – a neat feature for camping or tailgating.
