2011 Jeep Patriot Review

The 2011 Jeep Patriot provides solid off-road performance, but isn’t as comfortable as the leading 2011 compact SUVs.

Pros & Cons

  • Spacious interior
  • Good off-road performance with four-wheel drive
  • Great safety scores
  • Underpowered engine options
  • Uncomfortable back seats
  • Some low-quality interior materials

2011 Jeep Patriot Overview

When it was new, reviewers found that the 2011 Jeep Patriot performs well off-road and as a daily commuter. Though they complained about the Patriot’s underpowered engine and slow-to-respond continuously variable transmission, reviewers liked the Patriot’s suspension and steering.

The Patriot gets up to 23/29 mpg city/highway, which is good for the class. It also performs well in crash tests when equipped with side-impact airbags, which were optional when the Patriot was new.

When it was new, some reviewers thought that the Patriot had acceptable interior materials, but others found that it lacked the quality of vehicles like the 2011 Toyota RAV4. Test drivers called the front seats adequate, but even though they said the back seat is roomy, the back seats themselves are uncomfortable. Still, reviewers thought the Patriot has a versatile cargo space, complete with an available washable floor mat and flip-down speakers for tailgating.

The base Patriot comes with features that include foglights, roof rails, cruise control, an ambient temperature display and a stereo with an auxiliary input. Options and features on higher trims include heated front seats, keyless entry, leather seats, an upgraded stereo and Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

Other Cars to Consider

The redesigned 2011 Kia Sportage is a good alternative to consider. By choosing the Sportage, you’ll gain better performance interior quality. The Sportage has a top safety score like the Patriot, and it gets better fuel economy with a more powerful base engine. Still, the Patriot is the better off-road performer.

If you’re considering the Patriot, the highly-ranked 2011 Chevrolet Equinox is worth a look. The Equinox gets better fuel economy than the Patriot while generating more horsepower, and has a more functional and larger cargo area. The Equinox also has solid safety ratings.
