2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.4

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee has comfortable, adult-friendly seating in both rows. Its infotainment system is lauded as one of the best units around, and tapping into this Jeep's available upgrades can add a dose of luxury. However, the cargo area is one of the smallest in this segment.

  • The Grand Cherokee's interior is a bit of a mixed bag. In top-level trims like the Summit, it's swathed in luxurious leather and wood trim, and in SRT and Trackhawk guise, its heavily bolstered seats and track-focused technology package feel like they were borrowed from high-performance Challenger models (because they were). But Grand Cherokee Laredo models at the lower end of the spectrum can feel plasticky and bare …" -- Autoblog
  • "Inside, you'll find a handsome design and high-quality materials. They're not quite up to luxury standards, but they're darn close and miles ahead of what you'll get in the more rugged Toyota 4Runner." -- Autotrader  (2019)
  • "The Grand Cherokee impresses with its quality interior materials. The upper trim levels, in particular, have soft leather upholstery with aesthetically pleasing color combinations and stitching patterns. Everything feels solidly put together." -- Edmunds (2019)

Seating

The Grand Cherokee is a two-row SUV with five seats. While this Jeep doesn't set any records for legroom, it's still quite comfortable and can easily accommodate adults in both rows.

Cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, and a leather-wrapped and tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel are standard. The list of seating options includes partial or full leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and a heated steering wheel.

For installing child safety seats, there is a full set of LATCH hardware for each of the rear outboard seats, as well as a third tether anchor for the middle seat.

  • "Fortunately, for all the Grand Cherokee's Trail Rated capabilities off road, it still manages to offer luxurious accommodations inside, particularly in its higher-end trim levels, and a firm but generally comfortable ride." -- Autoblog
  • "Despite the Grand Cherokee's high seating position, there's still generous headroom up front. Elbow room and kneeroom are good, too. It's a similar story in back. Adults should have no problem stretching out." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Jeep's 2017 Grand Cherokee spans from a reasonably comfortable SUV to one capable of giving some luxury brands a run for their money." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)

Interior Features

Professional reviewers frequently name Jeep's Uconnect infotainment system as one of the best on the market. It has crisp graphics, smartphone integration that quickly connects you with your favorite apps, and a customizable menu that keeps frequently used settings right where you want them.

Standard features in the Grand Cherokee include a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, Bluetooth, six speakers, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Optional features include an 8.4-inch infotainment touch screen, an upgraded infotainment system with navigation, two additional USB ports, a 115-volt household-style power outlet, HD Radio, satellite radio, a nine-speaker Alpine premium audio system, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a rear-seat entertainment system, a single-pane or a panoramic dual-pane sunroof, a power liftgate, and remote start.

There are also several standard advanced safety features, including blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera. The Grand Cherokee is available with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, active parallel and perpendicular parking, rain-sensing windshield wipers, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning.

  • "A 7-inch screen featuring Jeep/Chrysler's excellent Uconnect infotainment system is upgraded to 8.4 inches around the point the vehicle crosses the $40,000 price threshold. This system also includes, and performs well with, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto." -- Autoblog
  • "Jeep's Uconnect infotainment system is one of the best in the industry. An 8.4-inch touch panel displays large, easy-to-see graphics, and the system's voice-recognition software allows for control of the navigation, audio, hands-free texting and mobile apps such as Pandora." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "Generally regarded as one of the more user-friendly infotainment setups on the market, Uconnect Access integrates most of the truck's audio, navigation and climate control functions into one unit. An 8.4-inch touchscreen mounted on the dashboard is the central component of the system, but redundant buttons and knobs for climate and audio volume and tuning are also included." -- Left Lane News (2017)

Cargo

The Grand Cherokee trails most midsize SUVs when it comes to cargo capacity. It has 36.3 cubic feet behind the rear seats. Folding the 60/40 split second-row seats opens up a 68.3-cubic-foot cargo hold. The base Laredo trim comes with a forward-folding front passenger seat, which is helpful for hauling long items. All other trims trade this feature for a power liftgate.

  • "… its cargo space falls considerably behind the Toyota 4Runner, which also offers optional third row seating. In the real world, the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee seats four adults in reasonable comfort and has adequate cargo space for that quartet to pack enough stuff for a week away. That said, buyers who plan to take extended road trips and/or put a priority on cargo space might be better served by the 2020 4Runner as well as more spacious crossovers like the new Honda Passport and the three-row Kia Telluride." -- Autoblog
  • The Grand Cherokee isn't as large inside as some rivals because it carries a full-size spare under the floor. Its 36.3 cubic feet of cargo space is sufficient, but you'll find more space in many rival SUVs." -- Edmunds (2019)
