2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior Review

Interior: 7.6

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee has an upscale cabin. It’s a well-built fusion of utility and comfort, with an easy-to-use infotainment system and spacious, well-cushioned seats. However, this 2-row SUV has less cargo space than you’d expect from a vehicle this size and less space than many rivals offer (though in fairness, many in this class are 3-row SUVs).

  • "Inside, you'll find a handsome design and high-quality materials. They're not quite up to luxury standards, but they're darn close and miles ahead of what you'll get in the more rugged Toyota 4Runner." -- Autotrader
  • "The Grand Cherokee impresses with its quality interior materials. The upper trim levels, in particular, have soft leather upholstery with aesthetically pleasing color combinations and stitching patterns. Everything feels solidly put together." -- Edmunds
  • "These are seriously nice trucks, even in base Laredo trim, raising the benchmark for affordable SUV interiors yet again." -- Cars.com (2014)

This SUV is one of the few vehicles in its class without an available third row. It seats up to five people on standard cloth upholstery. A leather-wrapped steering wheel is also standard. Several leather upholstery upgrades are available, as are power-adjustable front seats, ventilated front seats, heated front and rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.

The entire cabin is spacious, with ample head- and legroom in both rows. The upgraded leather options earn praise for their plushness. For installing child safety seats, there are two sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the middle seat. However, the lower anchors are buried deep in the seat cushions and are hard to work around.

  • "Despite the Grand Cherokee's high seating position, there's still generous headroom up front. Elbow room and kneeroom are good, too. It's a similar story in back. Adults should have no problem stretching out." -- Edmunds
  • "Jeep's 2017 Grand Cherokee spans from a reasonably comfortable SUV to one capable of giving some luxury brands a run for their money. … This [five passenger] layout offers good room for passengers and a healthy 36.3 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "Indulgently soft diamond-quilted leather and faux Alcantara is used liberally throughout the Summit's cabin. Touching it is like dipping your hands in melted chocolate – smooth and warm. The cushioning, especially in the three-abreast rear seats, feels bespoke to your backside, making occupants want to be driven rather than drive –similar to a Rolls-Royce. Jeep also increased the amount of acoustic glass, insulating passengers further throughout the lineup." -- Automobile Magazine (2017)

Interior Features

Jeep outfits the base Grand Cherokee Laredo with dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, and the Uconnect infotainment system with Bluetooth, two USB ports, voice controls, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a six-speaker stereo, and a 7-inch touch screen. Rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, and a rearview camera are standard too.

Optional equipment includes a nine-speaker Alpine stereo, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, an 8.4-inch touch screen, a built-in navigation system, satellite radio, HD Radio, a 115-volt outlet, a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, remote start, rain-sensing wipers, and a sunroof. There are also several driver assistance technologies available, such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, parallel and perpendicular park assist, automatic bi-Xenon high beams, and adaptive headlights.

The Jeep’s Uconnect infotainment system draws praise for its ease of use. It responds faster than the systems found in many rivals, and there are redundant buttons and knobs for controlling climate and audio settings. The touch screen can be configured to remember and display commonly used functions.

  • Some of the Grand Cherokee's technology features might seem dated. But it includes one of our favorite infotainment interfaces on the market, Uconnect, which is relatively intuitive." -- Edmunds
  • "Jeep's Uconnect infotainment system is one of the best in the industry. An 8.4-inch touch panel displays large, easy-to-see graphics." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • "Generally regarded as one of the more user-friendly infotainment setups on the market, Uconnect Access integrates most of the truck's audio, navigation and climate control functions into one unit. An 8.4-inch touchscreen mounted on the dashboard is the central component of the system, but redundant buttons and knobs for climate and audio volume and tuning are also included." -- Left Lane News (2017)

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a 2-row SUV. As such, it offers less cargo space than most of its classmates, in part because many of them are larger and offer three rows of seating. This Jeep has 36.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 68.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. A power liftgate is available.

  • The Grand Cherokee isn't as large inside as some rivals because it carries a full-size spare under the floor. Its 36.3 cubic feet of cargo space is sufficient, but you'll find more space in many rival SUVs." -- Edmunds
  • "Unfortunately, you'll be giving up some passenger space and a considerable amount of cargo room. There's only 36.3 cu ft. of space behind the back seat and 68.3 in total -- figures that fall short of many compact SUV models." -- Autotrader
  • Behind the rear seats are 35.1 cubic feet of cargo space, which expand to 68.7 with the rear seats folded, figures right in line with the Ford Edge and VW Touareg, but considerably less than Toyota's 4Runner." -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)
