  • Marginal fuel economy

2015 Jeep Compass Overview

Is the 2015 Jeep Compass a Good Used SUV?

The 2015 Jeep Compass is not a good used compact SUV. Though it has decent off-road chops, this Jeep is more mall-rated than trail-rated. Its everyday performance is abysmal, and its interior accommodations are cheap and clunky. Despite having a below-average price and the lowest projected ownership costs in the class, this Jeep is not worth buying.

How Much Does the 2015 Jeep Compass Cost to Own?

Five-year costs for gas, insurance, maintenance, and repairs for the 2015 Compass are estimated to be about $23,367. That’s below average for a compact SUV.

Is It Better to Buy a Used or New Compass?

A 2019 Compass starts at $21,595, which is higher than the price of a 2015. The 2019 model is part of a redesigned generation that debuted for 2017. It has 22 more horsepower, a nicer interior, more cargo space, and better fuel economy. The 2019 Compass also has a 7-inch Uconnect touch-screen infotainment system, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. However, it’s difficult to justify the difference for a vehicle that is consistently one of the lowest-ranked compact SUVs. Neither vehicle is worth considering.

Read about the new Jeep Compass »

No new compact SUV falls in the price range of a 2015 Compass. Two new subcompact SUVs worth considering are the 2019 Nissan Kicks and the 2019 Jeep Renegade. Starting at $18,540, the Kicks is much more fuel efficient, but it has 47 fewer horsepower than a comparably priced 2015 Compass, and it only comes with front-wheel drive. The Nissan also has fewer standard features and less cargo space by about 21 cubic feet. However, the Kicks has a high predicted reliability rating, which may give you more peace of mind than the below-average reliability rating of the Compass. Starting at $18,750, the 2019 Renegade is also a better choice than the Compass. It has an upmarket interior, nimble handling, and better fuel economy.

Which Model Year of the Jeep Compass Is Best?

Jeep introduced the Compass as a new crossover for the 2007 model year, and a new generation debuted for 2017. After a heavy update for the 2011 model year, this Jeep saw few changes through the remainder of the generation. Bluetooth and satellite radio became standard for the 2016 Compass, though they were optional in previous models. If those features aren’t important, consider an older model instead of the 2015, which will likely save you money.

2015 Jeep Compass Recalls

As of this writing, the 2015 Compass has one recall for a power steering clamp that was incorrectly positioned, which could increase the risk of fire if it comes loose and fluids leak. Make sure a dealer fixes the recall before buying a 2015 Compass.

Which Used Jeep Compass Is Right for Me?

The 2015 Compass is available in Sport, Latitude, and Limited trim levels. You’ll want to steer clear of lower Compass models, as they lack amenities like standard rearview camera, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Your best bet is to find a Compass Limited, which comes with standard features like leather upholstery, heated front seats, and an infotainment system with a rearview camera and satellite radio. Some used Latitude models may have leather upholstery and an upgraded infotainment system as well.

Certified Pre-Owned Jeep Compass Warranty

The Compass’ low reliability rating may have you considering a certified pre-owned Compass. Jeep’s CPO program is decent compared to what rival automakers offer, according to our analysis, but brands like GMC and Toyota offer better programs.

For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Jeep extends the original new-car powertrain warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. CPO vehicles also get a three-month/3,000-mile Maximum Coverage Care warranty. There are restrictions related to mileage and models, so read the Jeep warranty page carefully.

2015 Jeep Compass Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2015 Jeep Compass or 2015 Jeep Patriot?

The Compass and the 2015 Jeep Patriot are fraternal twins in the brand's lineup, sharing the same weak engines, dull handling, and sparse availability of features. Exterior styling is the main differences between these two. The Patriot has a slightly lower price than the Compass, but the Patriot has higher five-year operating costs. Any other SUV in the class would be a better choice than either Jeep.

Which Is Better: 2015 Jeep Compass or 2015 Subaru Forester?

The 2015 Subaru Forester is a solid choice because it has standard all-wheel drive and 21 more cubic feet of total cargo space than the Compass. The base four-cylinder engine has decent power for highway driving, but its available turbocharged engine is even more muscular. The Forester has smooth handling and much better performance than the Compass. Passenger room is excellent, especially in the second row, and the Forester’s high safety scores make it an attractive family vehicle.

Which Is Better: 2015 Jeep Compass or 2015 Nissan Rogue?

The 2015 Nissan Rogue has one of the most upscale interiors in the class, with plenty of premium materials. It also offers ample cargo space, and it’s one of few SUVs in the class with an available (albeit, small) third row. The Rogue has good safety scores and earns high fuel economy estimates compared to rivals, but it has a noisy powertrain. All in all, there is little reason to consider the Compass instead of the Rogue.

2015 Compass Performance

How Does the 2015 Jeep Compass Drive?

The 2015 Compass comes standard with front-wheel drive, and two different four-wheel-drive systems are available. Low-range gearing in the 4WD Freedom Drive II system makes the Compass somewhat capable off road, but most other Jeep models are still better suited to the trail. On pavement, the Compass has a relatively stiff ride and vague steering, which contribute to its poor overall performance.

The Compass comes with one of two four-cylinder engines. One produces 158 horsepower, and the other puts out 172. Both engines are underpowered and produce a lot of noise under hard acceleration. A five-speed manual transmission is standard. Most models come with either a six-speed automatic transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which shifts like an automatic.

Does the 2015 Jeep Compass Get Good Gas Mileage?

The standard front-wheel-drive Compass with a five-speed manual transmission gets an EPA-rated 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Fuel economy declines from there, dropping to 20/23 mpg city/highway with the larger engine, the CVT, and the Freedom Drive II 4WD system.

2015 Jeep Compass Towing Capacity

When properly equipped, the 2015 Compass can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

How Many People Does the 2015 Compass Seat?

The 2015 Compass seats five on standard cloth-upholstered seats. Some models feature leather upholstery and heated front seats. Though both rows of the Compass are comfortable, legroom is a bit tight wherever you sit.

How Many Car Seats Fit in the 2015 Jeep Compass?

The Compass has two complete sets of LATCH child-seat connectors in its second row. The middle seat has a top tether and can borrow lower anchors from either side. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Compass its second-highest rating of Acceptable. The tether connections could be confused for other seat hardware, and the lower anchors are buried too deep in the seat.

2015 Jeep Compass Features

The Compass falls behind many competitors when it comes to features. The base model comes equipped with only a four-speaker audio system, but higher trims feature an available infotainment system with more connectivity options. Available features include a sunroof, automatic climate control, satellite radio, navigation, and a nine-speaker premium audio system.

2015 Compass Length and Weight

The Compass is 14.6 feet long and has a curb weight that ranges from 3,103 to 3,354 pounds, depending on how it’s equipped.
