What Is the Rubicon?

The Rubicon Trail has been an off-road mecca since at least 1952 when 55 jeeps took a two-day drive through the Sierra Nevada mountains from Georgetown, CA, to Lake Tahoe. The Jeepers Jamboree, as it was called, has taken place every year ever since.

The Jeep CJ first appeared in the late 1940s, but it wasn’t until 2003 that the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon TJ debuted. It came from the factory outfitted with equipment that made it rugged enough to take on the iconic trail, including 31-inch tires (at the time) and electronic front and rear locking differentials.
