2015 Jaguar XK Review

The Jaguar XK balances nimble handling with muscular V8 engine performance. However, it falls toward the bottom of the luxury sports car class because it has cramped rear seats, some low-quality interior materials, and a finicky infotainment system.

Pros & Cons

  • Well-balanced ride
  • Powerful V8 engines

  • Some cheap-looking cabin materials
  • Poor fuel economy

2015 Jaguar XK Overview

Is the 2015 Jaguar XK a Good Used Car?

The Jaguar XK is modeled in the classic grand touring (or GT) style – a two-door four-seater with a comfortable ride, sharp handling, and a powerful engine. While the XK convertible and coupe deliver on all three fronts, it’s not enough to elevate this Jag from the back of its competitive class. The XK is held back by refinement issues. Its slim rear seats are almost unusable, and the touch screen is sluggish and has poor graphics.

Used 2015 Jaguar XK Performance and Interior

The 2015 Jaguar XK has a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 385 horsepower. Two supercharged models are also available: the XKR (510 horsepower) and the XKR-S (550 horsepower). A six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard. All XKs get up to speed quickly and offer muscular passing power. The XKR-S is the raciest of the bunch, zooming from zero to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and to a top speed of 186 mph. The XK’s automatic does a fine job most of the time, though it can occasionally hesitate to downshift. The transmission can also be shifted manually using shift paddles located behind the steering wheel.

The Jaguar XK and XKR models impress with accurate steering, balanced handling through turns, and confident braking power. Both show their true form, however, on the highway. The suspension eats up interstate miles with ease and yields a smooth, comfortable ride. The sporty XKR-S, on the other hand, gives up a hint of ride comfort for superior handling, thanks to its adaptive suspension (optional in XKR models). Regardless of model, fuel economy isn’t one of the XK’s highlights. The standard XK coupe earns just 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

The Jaguar XK seats four. You’ll find few passengers willing to squeeze into the tight back seat, though; it’s best used for extra luggage. The front seats are supportive, highly adjustable, and comfortable on long trips. Leather-trimmed cooled and heated seats are standard; sport seats with larger side bolsters are available. The Jaguar XK coupe offers a decent 11.7 cubic feet of cargo space. The Jaguar XK convertible has 11.1 cubic feet with its fabric top upright, and a still-usable 7.1 cubic feet of space with the top stowed. Both models are hampered by limited side and rear visibility.

Jaguar equips all XK models with a 7-inch touch screen, navigation, Bluetooth, a USB input, and satellite radio. The dashboard features a simple button layout for the XK’s audio and climate controls, but its touch screen isn’t quite as easy to use. The system operates slowly, the screen has poor graphics, and it’s often too dark to see in direct sunlight. Some interior plastics have a low-quality feel, though most materials – including rich leather and wood accents – live up to the standards people expect from Jaguar. One of the XK’s best features is its JaguarDrive gear selector, which rises elegantly from the center console when the start button is pressed.

How Safe Is the XK?

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety published crash test results for the 2015 Jaguar XK.

Jaguar equips all models with a rearview camera, parking sensors, and adaptive headlights that pivot to increase visibility around corners. Many class competitors offer more advanced safety features, such as forward collision warning.

Should I Consider Another Used XK?

The 2015 Jaguar XK marks the ninth and final model year of the vehicle’s second generation. The four-seat Jaguar XK models were discontinued in favor of the newer, sportier, and less-expensive Jaguar F-Type two-seater. There were no major updates for 2015. As a result, you may find similarly equipped 2013 and 2014 models at much lower prices. The XK’s last major refresh was in 2012 and included lightly updated exterior styling and the debut of the XKR-S.

Which Used Jaguar XK Is Right for Me?

Jaguar offers the 2015 XK in three trim levels: XK, XKR, and XKR-S. The base XK has a 7-inch touch screen, navigation system, Bluetooth, satellite radio, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, heated and cooled leather seats, adaptive headlights, parking sensors, and a rearview camera. The XKR adds a supercharged V8 (510 horsepower) and uprated brakes. The XKR-S bumps engine output up to 550 horsepower and adds a performance exhaust, an adaptive suspension, and bolstered sport seats.

You may also want to consider a certified pre-owned XK. For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Jaguar extends the original new-car warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. Every CPO Jaguar must pass a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Jaguar warranty page carefully.

2015 Jaguar XK and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Jaguar XK or 2015 Jaguar F-Type?

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type is a far better choice than its XK sibling. The two-seat sports car mirrors the XK with athletic handling, a comfy ride, and stout V8 engine performance. However, the F-Type also offers a potent yet more efficient V6, a better-behaved automatic transmission, and a higher quality interior. Used models often cost thousands of dollars less than comparable XKs.

Which Is Better: 2015 Jaguar XK or 2015 Porsche 911?

The 2015 Porsche 911 is an exceptionally well-balanced sports car – and a much better pick than the XK. The 911 is available in a dizzying array of models, each with powerful six-cylinder engines and razor-sharp handling. The 911 offers both rear- and all-wheel drive, a more luxurious interior, and superior reliability ratings. The catch is that used models are typically much more expensive.

Which Is Better: 2015 Jaguar XK or 2015 Chevrolet Corvette?

Like the XK, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette is brutally powerful and agile around bends, yet very comfortable to drive. Look inside, and you’ll find a nicer cabin, a roomier trunk, and better tech features. Used models are often more affordable as well. Not only is the Corvette the better car, it’s the better bargain.
